This scene on page 16 is important because it is the moment Eddie realizes that he has unknowingly killed a man. This is a powerful moment because it highlights the lesson that small action can often have huge impacts on you or others lives. This interaction marks the beginning of Eddie's afterlife. An important lesson to take away is that it is key to not blame people, but to find peace and learn with the past.

In this text on page 21 Eddie is having his first experience off of earth. This is part of Eddies transition into the Afterlife. Eddie has the absence of all pain including emotional, physical, and mental pain. The big message that comes from this passage is that afterlife allows you to be relieved of all of your pains. The clearance of his pain allows him to prepare to learn the lessons and reason for being on Earth.

The significance of this scene on page 18 is it is Eddie's last moment on Earth. Eddies final moment was him attempting to save a little girls life. When the author wrote "and then, nothing" it emphasizes that life can be taken at any given moment. It highlights the message if life was fair no good man would die young. This passage also leaves the reader on a cliff hanger because nobody knows if he really saved the girls life. It is a powerful moment because it is a flip of a switch change in Eddie's journey.

Page 48 highlights the unfairness of death. Here Eddie is sharing his experience with the blueman to the captain, He exclaims some guilt because he caused his death, but furthermore he shares the lesson he learned. What the Blue Man tells Eddie challenges Eddie's beliefs of death. The message the author is trying to give to the reader through the Blue man is that people mourn death because of its unexpected connections with others. The Blue Man Believes that even unknowingly every life on earth has a purpose and a reason for being there.

In this text on page 93, the author conveys the significance of sacrifice. Here, the captain teaches Eddie that sacrifice should not be a source of regret or resentment, but rather something that gives you a greater purpose in life. The captain emphasizes that both large and small sacrifices can have a big and vital impact on the lives of others. Often, sacrifices go unseen like When the captain shooting Eddie's leg. While many may view the captain's death as foolish, his selfless act ultimately saved the crew from losing their lives. This scene helps Eddie appreciate the value of his own life and recognize the unnoticed sacrifices he has made.

This section is emotionally intense. Eddie and the soldiers alongside him confront their captors, leaving a deep trauma in Eddie's mind. This section highlights the trauma and violence of war. Eddie is fueled by anger as he attacks the guards, motivated also by the loss of their fellow soldier, Robozzo. Robozzo symbolizes all the brothers and sisters lost during the conflict. Him and the fellow soldiers state "for Robbozo" This scene really shows how war can have a lasting impact on people both mentally and physically.

On page 91, Eddie becomes aware of how and why the captain is in his heaven. Here, Eddie's perception of time and death is redefined. He reacts with shock and sorrow upon realizing how the captain has passed away. Additionally, he experiences feelings of guilt as he understands the connection between his physical knee problems and their impact on the captain's mind. The captain imparts an important lesson: it is a common misconception that death marks the end of life. The captain explains that death is, in fact, the beginning of something much larger. These words change Eddie, and enable him to comprehend the afterlife. This allows the reader to recognize that even in death, growth, meaning, and continuation all exist.

On page 96, before leaving, Eddie asks the captain if he saved the little girl. The author includes this moment to illustrate that Eddie still has feelings of uncertainty about his death. This is significant because, despite the two lessons he has learned and the sacrifices made by others for him, he remains unconvinced that his life ended for a meaningful purpose. This indicates that he has not fully changed from the lessons he has been taught and may have sacrificed himself under the cart without a clear reason.

In this scene on page 109, Eddie confronts his father after enduring years of abuse and neglect. Eddie's decision to take a stand signifies a pivotal moment in his relationship with his father. Following this interaction, Eddie never speaks to his father again. The key message for the reader is that a single action can profoundly impact not only your life but also the lives of those around you.

On page 104, Mitch Albom writes, "All parents damage their children. This statement plays a significant role in the story as it highlights Eddie's ongoing tension with his father. Eddie's father physically and verbally abused him during his childhood. Furthermore, this statement resonates with readers, allowing them to connect with Eddie's situation. All children reflect their parents' good and bad habits throughout their lives. This insight is not only meaningful but also serves as a valuable lesson.

On page 122, Eddie meets the third person, Ruby. Although he has never met her before, the pier that has been a significant part of Eddie's life was built in her honor. Ruby discusses the fire that occurred and the financial and physical damage done to her husband. This moment is crucial because she expresses her regret, wishing that the pier had never built. This is a major connection with Eddie, as he feels the pier as a burden in his own life. The underlying message for the reader is that unseen connections play a significant role in the events of our lives.

On page 124, Eddie's father comes home disheveled, missing a shoe filled with sand and soaking wet. Initially, Eddie assumes he is drunk and has gone swimming. However, Eddie later discovers that his father was actually saving a life. Despite being soaked and cold after spending hours in the ocean and on the beach, Eddie's father still goes to work to support his family. Although he makes some poor decisions, it shows how truly hardworking he is, and loyalty to his family. This scene highlights the theme that the value of a good deed lies in its intention and impact, rather than in public acclaim.

From an early age, when he accepted that he would not become an engineer, to the moment of his death, he always believed he had no purpose on Earth. However, after meeting the fifth person, Tala, she quickly teaches him that his purpose is to keep children safe. This revelation is significant for Eddie, as it brings him closure and helps him recognize his worth. Additionally, it connects to his first lesson: there are no random acts.
