As one of the developers of the PD day, it will be pertinent to add a session that allows teachers to put themselves in the learners shoes and see how critical inquiry is to the process of developing the whole learner!

The main question students should be asking is "What if. . .?" They should be able to test out a hypothesis they developed through experimentation and see if the theoretical knowledge they have gained works in real world applications.

Sports Stats Project

Have students develop a question they are interested in testing, such as "Do NFL teams actually have a home field advantage?". After developing a question they can either research the data or perform the experiments themselves to test their claim.

Have students take their own prints then do an "I Wonder" after they are able to see their own print. Teach about the main patterns, then have them develop their own thoughts about the patterns. Then teach about Minutae, and have they blow up their prints (on balloons) to find the mini patterns within the pattern!

Allowing students the opportunity to research a topic that is of interest and importance to them for our informative essay assessment, rather than just have them choose from a pre-assigned list of topics, can encourage students to take ownership of their learning through inquiry!

Give students a guided question prompt/fill-in-the-blank (ex. how does [guitarist] utilize [either right or left hand technique] to achieve [effect of the student's choice that they hear or see in a recording]?) and use a collaborative structure like small group discussion or think-pair-share for students to share their questions and brainstorm possible solutions/answers to each others' questions. An alternative learning path for this activity for students in need of enrichment would be to incorporate hands-on use of guitars to try and replicate the effect(s) they are discussing on the guitar, to apply their previously learned skills and possibly new ones learned through exploration in this activity.

Instead of introducing notation and showing introductory examples, I could fill boxes with items (some similar, some not) and have students explore similarities and differences between those objects. We could then extend that concept and have students create their own boxes of objects that relate in certain ways to the ones given. Finally, we could relate this to actual concepts an notations found in Set Theory.
