Music comes from many different cultures. Music has its own diverse style, whether it be Christian music that is traditional or the newer pop/country version of Christian music. For instance, Amazing Grace, that’s in the song book that is traditional vs East to West by Casting Crowns, which is the new Christian music. Each culture has its unique type of music that will continue to evolve.

In the early 19^th century, women who followed English common law lost their ability to own anything; those women who were single were under the control of a male relative (if not married) or their husband if they were married. Women did not have legal rights to vote or have a say until the 1920s. In today's times, women have as many rights as men and can vote. The only downfall currently is that women still earn less than men in some aspects of work and struggle with reproductive rights.

For instance, when I was in high school, we read Romeo and Juliet, but today’s high school students read The Great Gatsby. Each day, our world evolves from the knowledge that we learn and share with other cultures.

Cake in the face on a birthday is a Mexican tradition (Mexico) vs Americans just put candles on the birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday.

Each culture has diverse ways of greeting each other this includes handshakes, bowing or verbal communication.

Language in each culture varies. Culture plays a big role in how to communicate. Slang, interpretation, tone, volume, and the speed of communication play a big role in how communication is viewed. Being silent in some cultures when being spoken to is disrespectful, while others find it to be a sign of respect.

Non-verbal communication is a big thing in some cultures vs others. This can include eye contact, gestures, and personal space.

For the classroom, display various art, literature, ethnicity, and background. Create learning centers that offer diverse materials. Offer flexible seating where students can work in groups or individually this way they can interact and learn from one another.
