         <description><![CDATA[<div>During a hearing on the case, <em>R. v Morgentaler, </em>The court found that the Criminal Code on abortion violated a woman's right to "life, liberty and security of the person" guaranteed under Section 7 of the Charter.  Since there is no other law has replaced the prohibition of abortion, it has remained legal throughout Canada since 1988. This is important as it finally allowed women to control their own bodies and was a change and continuity of the fight for abortion rights.</div>]]></description>
