The fleet convened at Aulis, where a thousand ships were prepared to carry the Greeks into battle. The only problem was the wind wouldn’t blow the way they needed it to, at once the soothsayer, Calchas, said that Artemismwas angry with the Greeks for killing a hare and to make up fo this they needed to sacrifice the maiden, Iphigenia, to her. The army was desperate and so they sacrificed on the altar.

So the North wind stopped blowing and they sailed across to Troy. Protesilaus was the first man to jump off the ship, which was a brave deed because it was prophesied that the first man to touch the soil on Troy would be the first to die. Therefore when he died ,the Greeks and the gods honored him.

For a while a feud flared up between Achilles and Agamemnon over a woman. Apollo’s priest’s daughter was taken by the Greeks and was given to Agamemnon. Her father demanded her release but to no avail. Finally he prayed to Apollo who replied in kind to the Greeks by raining down arrows from above. Eventually there was a meeting among the chieftains. In this meeting Calchas said that they had to give back The daughter of Apollo’s priest. Agamemnon said that he would take Achilles’s maiden Briseis. Achilles let them , but said that he would curse their master, and so Achilles stayed in his tent and did not leave while the war was raging.

As the battle was raging, the King and old men from Troy were watching from the walls and talking about how Helen was worth it. All the sudden the two armies screw back and in the center Paris and Menelaus emerged. Paris swung at Menelaus first, but Menelaus blocked it with his shield and there his own spear. It hit Paris’s clothing but did not hurt him. Menelaus drew his sword and advanced on Paris, but the sword broke in his hand. Though unarmed Menelaus jumped onto Paris and threw him off his feet and would have gotten him back to the Greeks if Aphrodite hadn’t taken off Paris’s chinstrap, and carried him back to Troy.

With Achilles gone on the Greek side. Their greatest champions were Diomedes (Son of Aphrodite) and Ajax. They fought and fought that day leaving many wounded or dead. The bravest other than Hector, Prince Aeneas came to near death from the hands of Diomedes. When Diomedes wounded the Prince, Aphrodite went down to the battle field to save him. Diomedes knew she was a coward goddess so he sliced her hand. Diomedes raged on working havoc. He came face to face with Hector. And to his surprise he saw Ares fighting for Hector. Diomedes was scared and told the Greeks to fall back slowly. Hera was angry though and Ares fled up to Olympus. With Ares gone the Trojans were forced to fall back as well.

The Greeks started to look for a secret way to enter Troy. The results came out as they built a giant hollow wooden horse that could fit many men into it. If anything went wrong they would go to a nearby island and hide. They dragged the horse through the gate and up to Athena's temple. In the middle of the night the doors of the horse opened and one by one they all got out. They opened the gates so more could go in. They started fires to every building. Everyone at Troy was getting killed. Troy ended up burning down into many fires and rubles.
