This is the mug after smoothing it. It looks much cleaner, the handle is good and stuck well on, and is ready to be fired soon hopefully. I’m very happy of how well this turned out!

Part One - Bowl

I tried to make a ramen like bowl, but didn’t want to go too far at the bottom because I wanted to have nice strong bottom so that it feels secure. I’m really proud of this piece, it looks really cool and has a nice even bottom.

Part Five - Mug

I have finally finished the final stage before this mug gets fired. It is mostly rock solid at the point. I also made a few adjustments to the mug handle, I put a little more clay to the sides because I noticed they were cracking a lot. This was a great addition to the mug since you can now drink out of it holding the handle.

Part Three - Bowl

I let the the bowl sit for about two days for it to get to a point where it’s not bone dry, but to a point where it’s safe enough to make my first patterns. I went with a cool aztec like design on my bowl. It was completely random. I knew I wanted to make a pattern on one of my pieces eventually, so I did just that.

I finished the pattern on Friday and I feel really good about it. I really like this piece. It also really stands out when it’s bone dry! I’m really excited for this piece to get fired and maybe glaze possibly.

Part Two - Bowl

I think the trimming is a little bit better on this bowl. I definitely could’ve made it better, but it is what it is. Overall, the bowl stands up straight and doesn’t wobble around, there’s no cracks in it or dents. I would like do something cool at the end for this bowl.

I got the piece fired and ready to glaze. It came out great with no cracks or sharp edges. I feel amazed on how this is going to come out when it’s through the glaze firing process.

I finally glazed my double bubble tool holder! It took awhile for me to decide but eventually did it. I have some missing spots but it’s ok, I still really like the piece that I made. I’m super excited to see what it looks like at the end of the firing.

I have finished my double bubble tool holder and it looks amazing! The glaze firing was definitely the best part of the steps. I hope to do maybe two dips next time to see what it looks like at the end result!

Part 1 - Carving the Structure

This is the start of my mask. It looks a little big, so I might cut it down just a little more so that the mask doesn’t feel heavy when you put it on.

Part 2 - Shaping the Nose

I might change this later this is a small nose, so I’m going to make it this a bit bigger. The placement is the only good thing about this part.

Part 3 - Shaping the Mouth and Scar

I made a change to the nose to make it a bit bigger and make it shaped like a triangle. I shaped the scar on the left side as shown in my replica and shaped the mouth to a bold shape. I also shaped the edges of the mask more in so that it’s aligned to the point where it looks like a mask.

Part 4 - Shaping the Second Mouth

I really like this shape that I created onto the mask. It looks like a Japanese warrior which I want because it’s based off of Somen, with an old school mouth. It connects from the mouth to the nose in a curved form.

Part 5 - Shaping the Eyes

I formed the structure for the eyes. All I just have left is the eyeball. This mask is coming together that I wanted it to. I didn’t expect it to look anywhere near this, but with time and effort, I’ll be satisfied either way. I might make changes to the end to make it even more bolder or add some facial designs.

Part 6 - Shaping the Eye Ball and Eyebrows

The eyeball was really difficult to make because I molded the clay into a donut like shape. The eyebrows were really difficult to, I’m also going to fix this later in the final preparations station where I fix everything up.

Part 7 - Shaping the Decorations

I went in the middle of the mask right where the eyebrows are and made a little U shape around the eye and made a double V around the eyebrows. I might go back and also fix this later but for now I think this is a good start.

Part 8 - Shaping the Decorations Part 2

I’m starting to add my three lines in the top of the mask. I also messed around with the nose a bit to make it curve a little so that it looks like the mask I’m referencing from. I think there is a lot of things that I have to change, but right now where it stands I think people would accept this.

Part 9 - Making It More Smooth and Adding Adjustments

I have redefined the nose and eyebrow on the left to make them both look very real but strange. I think I did a really good job on the nose despite being my very first time shaping one. I took no references from the nose, I made it look very natural with my imagination. I also finished the decorations with the three lines on top of the mask. I’ll once again come back to the decorations later because I think I need way more around the cheek area as well as spots on the face that are kind of empty. Finally, I smoothed out all of the mouth, eye lids, nose, eye balls, etc. I have a mess around the eye area so I’m going to have to clean that up at some point.

Part 10 - Adding to It

I added a lot of more features and plan to add a lot more to this mask. I added two more eyes teeth and lines on the cheek areas. I’m obviously going to add more as time goes on. I want to add three eyes on each eyelid, have pointy triangles on the lines of cheek to make it look like a pattern, and make my teeth more realistic to a monster so I’d probably have to add more.

Part 11 - Adding to It Part 2

I redefined a little bit of more surface to make it a little more visible. I added two more
to each eyelid, made the teeth more smooth and added triangular type shapes on the side of the cheeks that I’m going to come back to later. But for now this mask is I’d say about 75% complete with the firing and the glazing coming up.

Part 12 - Adding to It Part 3

This is one of the final touches that I’ve made, I should be done with this mask right now, but unfortunately I missed two days. But I will keep working on it to make sure that I e made the best mask in the class! I’ve added a pointy top to the mask as well as smoothing it out with a metal tool. It looks way better and hope to make it even better than it was before I shaped it into a mess.

Part 13 - Hauling Out my Mask

This is the last stage for making my mask. I took a lot of weight out of the back of the mask. I also trimmed a ton of clay on the right side as it was way too uneven, so I thought I’d make it more even on each side. I’m going to trim out a little bit more on the right side because it still looks like it’s not that even out yet. But from there, I think that will be the even for the making of the mask!

Part 14 - Hauling Out my Mask Part 2

I took out a bunch of weight at the bottom as you can see in the photo. I also smoothed out the sides and edges of my mask so that they are not sharp and also took a lot of clay out on the right side to make it more aligned. All that I have to do now is shape the nose at the bottom.

Part 15 - Pushing the Nose in and Making the Hook Marks

I’m now done with the bottom of my mask. Doesn’t look that great but it looks really good for a first time. I pushed the clay down all the way to the nose until I reached the end. The clay was a little hard so I used a tool and a little bit of water to cut through the clay. Mr. Stout but hook marks as well just in case if I want to hook this on something.

Part 16 Final Structure for Building the Mask

I am finally done with shaping my mask! At the end and final touches, I made the mask a little more bold so people can see it for a far. I smoothed out the mask to the best of my ability, the mask is leather hard from this point so it was actually the perfect time to finish up. Finally, I made my little signature at the top of the right eyebrow. It’s totally readable and I really like it. I’ve learned so much from this experience and hopefully I’ll be able to do this again in the future! There could be a Part 17 potentially if it’s for putting it in the kiln or glazing. But either way, it’s much likely done!

Forgot to put the bone dry piece and bisque fired piece into the photos. It was a slow start but eventually got the hang of one to bit into the fire. I tried something new with the glaze since it couldn’t fit in one of the small buckets. I chose to cover it in flask with cherry red. Didn’t turn out the best but it worked for some of the parts.

I chose cherry red for the chip and dip. I thought it would be more cool if i did a reduction fire for it, but I think it turned out the way i wanted it too.

This is in bisque form. For the glaze I chose robins egg. I liked the combo for the reduction fire so I would like to give it a try for the last glaze firing. The plate has a respectable weight and looks really nice. This is by far the best plates I've made from the previous 3 that I've made.
