Bob's creepy actions in chapter 27 are a hint to how he will be in further chapters. By him going after the ones involved in the case, the reader can assume Atticus, or his family, will be next. Scout had to dress as ham for Halloween, her costume was made of chicken wire, which may be one of the most important details, it ends up saving her life. Since Aunt Alexandra and Atticus were too tired to attend the pageant Jem had to take Scout as well as escort her home. It's crucial to know that it was just Scout and Jem because they are the ones who get attacked by Bob Ewell.
