Concerns about your Picc or Hickman line

Living with uncertainty and cancer
A diagnosis and/or treatment of cancer can lead to a range of difficult feelings, which differ from person to person. You may worry about what will happen (uncertainty).
Even in the months and years following diagnosis and treatment, you may notice feeling unsure about many things: the future, how you will cope, your physical health and your loved ones.
This uncertainty can feel worrying and difficult to cope with. You may feel anxious and low. Sometimes we struggle with these feelings and things seem to get worse.

Who is the course for?
The course is for people who are coping with uncertainty following a diagnosis of cancer during treatment and afterwards.

Fatigue Management

Fatigue is often described as overwhelming and constant tiredness making it hard to cope with everyday life. It has been identified as one of the most common symptoms of cancer, preventing people leading a full and active life.

The Fatigue Management Group course runs once a month at the Maggie's Centre in Cardiff (located on the premises of Velindre hospital) the sessions run 13:00-15:00 and are face-to-face.

The Acute Oncology Service are a group of nurses and doctors that manage the unexpected care needs of cancer patients. At Velindre Cancer Centre we are a stand-alone centre. This means that we provide cancer services, but do not have, for example an Accident and Emergency department. Therefore, we call upon our colleagues in local hospitals in some circumstances. This may be if you are unwell and require assistance from another speciality, other than your oncology/cancer team. We use the expertise of colleagues in local district hospitals managing some side effects from the treatments we give. If you are admitted to another hospital, your care will be managed by the admitting team. We liaise with this team to help manage your side effects and often link with the team through the Acute Oncology Service. There is an Acute Oncology nurse you can meet within the DGH who can help support you.
