    One new thing I learned about Salva is that he was trying to be brave to set a good example for Kuol but he was scared he was gonna die and never see his family again.

    One new thing i learned is that we learned that there was a war going on because of the government that they wanted to make the country a Muslim country and the people refused.

    In the text it states "Most of the people who lived in the north were Muslim and the government wanted all of Sudan to become a Muslim country a place where the beliefs of Islam were followed".

    One new thing I learned about  Nya is that she has to go get water for her family so she has to dig and has to get the bucket.

    In the text it states, " Nyáś job at the lake camp was the same as home:to fetch water.With her hands, she would dig a hole in the damp clay of the lake bed.

    The author included this information about the character because it show us that what she had to do and that she does it and like it is her rountine to do it.

    If we didn't know this information about the character, the story would be different because it will not show use what the girl are doing and if they get water or how.

    One new thing I learned about Nya is that she makes a hole in the ground with her bare hands but her and her family have to go to a lake near them.
    In the text it states, "Every year when the rain stops and the lake is near, Nya's family moved from their home to a camp near the big lake."
    The author included this information about the character because It shows how when they don't have more water Nya's family has to move near a lake for water.

    One new thing i learned about Nya is she went with her mom to take her brother to the docter because she was sick.

    In the text it says
    "So Nya and her mother had taken Akeer to the special place-a big white tent full of people who were sick or hurt,with docters  and nurses to help them."

    The author included this information about the character because it shows that even if Nya's mom goes with her brother she still goes with her because shes worried about Akeer.

    In  the text it says that like the pond back home ,the lake was all dried up . But because it was much bigger  than the pond,the day of the lakebed still held water. Nya's job at the  lake camp  was the same as at home: to fetch water .with her hands , she would  dig a hole in the domp clay of the lakebed.  

    The author included this information about the character because  because it tells us how she collects water and were does she get it.   

    If we didn't know this information about the character,the story would be different because  then we would not know her job to do at the lake camp or were she got water.

    The author makes this connection because it tells us that nya and salva are living the same life of walking so many hours.
