I first have to assess my students to see where they are academically and what they need more help on for improvement and success. After receiving data i then put my kids into groups and figure out who needs small group instruction. We work in small groups everyday and activities are based on the need of the students. Learning stations are based upon the needs of the students and hands on practice with the SE's that have been taught. They are held accountable with an informal assessment checking to see if they understand the concept in the station.

I am able to be intentional about my small groups based on the data as well. I am able to work with my students in small group and understand that all of small groups will not look the same. Based on Tiers, I am able to meet the academic need for my students in small group by intentionally planning what I will work on in small group.

Intentional planning for small group starts with making sure all activities/ assessments are planned with great detail. It is important that I don't just pull students with no meaning behind it. My small groups are normally just a review of the content learned that week. The work stations that I put in place are very intentional. I review data from previous weeks assessments or areas the students have not shown mastery in and use that information to determine what stations the students will work on for the week. Grouping is also very important and has to be done with students work relationships, academic levels, and behavioral issues in mind.

Intentional planning for my classroom, first, is driven by data. Since I teach Science, most of the class period is students collaborating in groups to complete an investigation. Learning stations/Observation stations are designed for students to explore in current content. Small group instruction comes as needed. Majority of the time, based on my experience, when students come to 5th grade Science, most science content is being introduce for the first time. Therefore, Science content is taught as Observation stations or whole-group instruction.

Students that are not reading and comprehending on grade level will engage in guided reading which will improve their fluency and comprehension at the same time. Questions given by me during guided reading are derived from question stems attache to SEs. Intentional planning for learning stations comes from the YAG and what is supposed to be taught. Learning stations will include weekly text, vocab, I-station, and writing. All learning stations are SE specific and what students should be learning at the present time.

For instance, in Reading, I have an opportunity to breakdown phonemic awareness, or comprehension skills and strategies for students. For Math, I have an opportunity to breakdown concepts being taught. I have this opportunity to really explain and "breakdown" the information for students.
