In general, Drugs affect the brain by sending the chemical Dopamine that induces feelings of pleasure. Under normal conditions, the body generates a normal amount of dopamine and travels through receptors on brain cells that generate signals of pleasure. Drug use causes extra dopamine to be generated and traveled. Over time, the receptors will begin to disappear and this will lead to reduced signals of pleasure. A drug abuser will become more addicted to drugs because they need more drug use to achieve the same effect of pleasure.
