Introduction( 10 mins)

Read a brief article that explains key communication styles

Scenario-Based Practice

1. Review the following scenarios and think about which communication style would be most appropriate for each one.

2. Students will post their responses on a discussion board or in a collaborative document.

Student Activity:

• Write a response to each scenario (collaborative document).

• In each scenario, students should:

  • Use appropriate communication techniques.

  • Describe why they think the style is the best choice (consider tone, formality, and audience).

  • Use correct referencing to readings or articles to back up reasoning

Discussion Boards (Forums)

Students will write what they know about the types of communications on a padlet discussion bord

Video (10 minutes)

Video on types of communications(verbal, non-verbal, visual, written) should be watched by each student

Duration:

15 minutes

Small Group Discussion :

• Divide students into small groups of 3-4.

• Assign each group one of the following issues to discuss through Voxer:(A voice messaging app that's like a walkie-talkie for asynchronous communication):

  • Misinformation and Fake News

  • Digital Privacy and Surveillance

  • Impact of Social Media on Communication

• Instruct groups to identify:

  • One key challenge related to their topic

  • A recent example or news story

  • Possible solutions to improve communications.

Group Sharing (10 minutes):

• Have each group share their findings through a mind map on padlet in which the other groups will add their findings (2-3 minutes per group).

Aim: To analyse current issues affecting communication today, such as misinformation, digital privacy, and the influence of social media

Introduction (10 minutes):

Briefly introduce the topic of communication challenges with aid of powerpoint

Ask a question to spark interest on chat forum: “What do you think is the biggest challenge in communication today?”

Introduction (5 minutes):

Brief overview of learning outcomes(students should look back on notes).

Quiz (15 minutes)

1. Students will complete a short quiz

2. By practicing, the learner gets better at adapting their actions to the task goal and using feedback to improve their next move.

Scenario 2:
You want to ask your friend to hang out this weekend via text.

• What style should you use? Why?

Introduction: Students are placed into small groups(3-5) in which they will us a shared google doc to think of a hypothetical product.

• Define the goals of your communication strategy

• Choose key communication channels (e.g., social media)

• Identify key messages you want to communicate about your product (benefits)

• Decide on the tone and voice of your messaging (e.g., friendly)

  Delivery should include :

• A shared Google Doc with:

  Product name, description, and target audience.

  Communication goals and chosen channels.

  Key messages, tone of voice, and a summary of the strategy.
