  • Assign students a short reading (an article or research paper) that applies to the course content.

  • Ask students to apply each of the reading techniques to the text as they read it.

    • Skimming the title, headings, and conclusion.

    • Obtaining an overview of the argument by reading the introduction and conclusion.

    • Identifying key points in each section.

    • Critically evaluating the evidence and argument presented in the text.

    • In-depth analysis of one specific argument, methodology, or piece of evidence that interests them.
