On Monday, it was our first lesson together, so we spent time communicating and collaborating. The first activity we did was seeing how many circles we could turn into different objects in a certain time limit. I turned mine into faces, sporting items, etc. This was a fun and engaging activity to try and make us use our thinking skills. The second activity we did was trying to create ideas on how to cut a monkey's hair. This helped us with our divergent and convergent thinking. Our group came up with the ideas of biting it or using a razor. Both ideas worked, but were not as practical as the other groups. The 'bite it' idea was more of divergent thinking as it was not as realistic as using a razor, which leaned more towards convergent thinking. The last activity we did was pitching a product. We got given 3 cards, one included a symbol, the word transport, and the word musicians. We had to turn these 3 cards into a product that we could pitch to the class. My group members and I came up with the idea of private transport for musicians and their instruments. We decided to do a private bus that catered for everyone and their needs. We drew it out and then wrote up our pitch for the class. The ideas were clear and obvious about what our product was

Our task today was to create an item to protect our skin from the sun. It had to be both effective and efficient. The supplies we used to make the item were paper and tape. We created a hat by making a box from the paper and sticking the sides together. This box had the possibility to also turn into a box to hold more belongings. We also created an upside-down storage box with 4 sides to hold our items, such as sunscreen. The paper was only A3 size, so we had to work around sharing and evenly using the paper to create enough product to protect our skin. After we finished creating our products, we pitched our items to the class to see their reactions and get any feedback. In our pitch, we also included the price of what we could sell them for, which was 99 cents. This price offers cheap and easy, whilst also hooking buyers onto acquiring more. In the short amount of time that we were given, we managed to make 2 items that both helped hold personal belongings while having a hat that protects you whilst in the sun.

Today we had to do a character strength survey. This was a good way to see what our strengths are based on different questions. My strengths are in order above, I feel they are accurate based on my personality. I can use these strengths in Action project by working in groups and being open to any opinions and ideas. This survey allowed me to express my answers to each question.

In week 1, we spent time getting to know each other whilst also learning about what the course is going to look like in the action project. We went through a course of different activities, including thinking games, pitching ideas, and a survey. All of these activities gave us the chance to work with other people and create products using our opinions and perspectives. The survey allowed me to answer questions about myself and see my top strengths in order. This can allow other people to gain a quick perspective of me and my personality.

What is your biggest challenge going to be in AP?

I think my biggest challenge in the action project will be speaking in front of everyone.
Week 2 reflection - lunch experience

This week, we had to look through the slides and redesign our lunchtime. We started by finding a partner to do each slide about. My partner was Darcey, and I had to find out information about her lunch. We started by doing a timeline on each of our own lunchtime experiences. I reflected on how I spent my lunchtime and recorded everything I did. I ranked them from terrible to terrific on the timeline. Part 2 was to look over my partner's timeline and recognize any important things she did. After that, I interviewed Darcey to find out how she felt and what she did in more detail. I wrote down all the information I needed to then make an empathy map. I composed Darcey's needs and influences along with how she felt and the pros/cons. The next part was called the insight statement, which allowed us to think about our partner's "weakness" or an area that can be improved, and write down how that can be changed. This whole task allowed me to use my critical thinking to ask questions and to think about how situations can be improved from the original. In this scenario, hearing about Darcey's lunch and redesigning it into a better way to fit all her needs and wants. This helped me find different skills that I can use throughout the course of the Action Project.

This is my list of strategies to help Darcey wake up on time. It is various ways of how Darcey can force herself to get up and be ready for the correct time. A fun and interactive way of getting up will allow Darcey to feel more motivated to get out of bed. An alarm clock that wakes Darcey up with a bright light playing her favorite music whilst displaying the time and weather will be an exciting way to start her day.

In week 3, we spent this week focusing on finding problems in our council areas. In our first lesson on Monday, we started by identifying all of the council areas we each live in. We chose the council of Unley and started researching problems we have within the area. We found out that tree canopies are a problem as we don't have enough shade provided throughout the community. We started developing ideas on how this is a problem and what solutions we could find to help our community and the environment. Brainstorming and coming up with ideas throughout our group was important as it allowed us to collaborate and communicate about ways we can effectively complete this spin-off project, whilst also pitching an interesting video on our solution and how it can better the designated council area.

Throughout week 4, we continued to work on our problem and the solutions to solve it. The spin-off project focused on presenting the issue of the tree canopy's shade coverage by issuing various solutions, by planting more trees. We worked with other groups to share our ideas and acquire feedback on what we could do to develop our idea further. We created 3 Scamper idea techniques for each solution we could create to help maintain the shade throughout the city of Unley. Our best idea was planting trees to create more shade for individuals, whilst also creating environmental, social, and economic benefits.

This week, we started our spin-off project, and we overcame challenges of absences and continued working on the process of creating our solution video. We were including Ethos, Pathos, and Logos, which are different techniques to compel and create a persuasive message throughout the video. We started writing the script and adding different techniques in it to promote our solution to the council. At the start of the week, we looked at different examples of infomercials, which helped us understand what people look for. My group thought of unique ways of how to make our video interesting and engaging. This task is interesting as it is a problem happening within our community and my group is passionate about finding out how we can promote our solution in a way that people will feel interested and moved. Each of the persuasive techniques will help to signify the solution which is why we are applying them throughout our video.

This week, we have continued our spin-off project. After we completed our script, we moved on to the filming aspect of the task. We allowed time each lesson for each group member to film their parts. This week, we had different challenges with absences again, so we had to overcome those hurdles by filming different parts on different days. We put a lot of time and effort into thinking about the most appropriate places that we could film to highlight the importance of our solution. The script helped emphasize why and how the solution will help our environment and community. Each part was filmed carefully and ensured it was filled with correct information and had ethos, pathos, and logos throughout. We remembered all the different techniques other groups used in their videos and created ideas on how we could make our video to a better standard. We listened to each other's opinions and were open to changing different parts to help make the video more special and heartfelt, which symbolized why we are passionate about this problem and how our solution can create a positive impact. After filming each part, we watched the clips back over to recognize anything we needed to change or edit out. We used our time wisely and were able to see when we needed to switch on to complete this assignment.

This week, 2/3 of our group members were away on the snow trip, so we had to work around that challenge. Our solution video was due this week, so we needed to focus on editing and turning it in on time.

What improvements would we make if we had the opportunity to do this task again?

I would say better time efficiency. If we had focused more on how we were going to plan the filming time, we could have started earlier, resulting in us finishing each part without having people absent.

What elements of collaboration were successful?

In our group, we had a very good and respectful team relationship. We were all very inclusive and open to hearing each other's ideas, which allowed for a smooth journey throughout the task.

What improvements could your group make in collaboration?

I think we did pretty well at collaborating fairly; however, we could have created a better work environment to think clearly about different perspectives.

What persuasive techniques did we use?

We used a range of different persuasive techniques to create a better video to promote our solution. We used ethos, pathos, and logos to add passion and appeal throughout the video. Adding in different phrases and slogans helped lift our video and apply different senses of humor throughout. We used statistics to inform the viewers of how serious the problem is and how well our solution can help. Each of these techniques helped benefit our video in a variety of different ways. They added emotional depth whilst using humor to create an interesting way of proposing our solution.
