Norms have been established in each culture and can be vastly different. This image is an example of how we as a society drive on the right side of the road.

Authority is the legitimate power which one person or a group holds and exercises over another. Authority can be seen in everyday life, from parents, to law enforcement, or a boss at work. This image is an example of authority, because the majority abides to the law and changes their behavior once law enforcement is around. Seeing police when driving might result in one actually following the speed limit and just shows the authority the police has over individuals.

This is an image of a special bike people use in the Netherlands. Since biking is such a big part of the culture there, the bike represents material culture. People in America do not have this bike, because biking is not a huge part of there society so there is no demand for it. But in the Netherlands everyone uses bikes it has become a part of their culture and image.

Scrolling through my instagram feed, I came across a picture of this girl who traveled to Africa to help young children.

A stereotype is an over-generalized belief about a particular category of people. It is an expectation that people might have about every person of a particular group. This is an image of my sister putting on makeup. People often assume that all girls wear makeup, thus creating a stereotype. Gender roles are also a big part of our stereotypical society, like women take care of the children, cook for the family, etc., while men go out and work. Many of these stereotypes are disappearing due to different norms and beliefs about gender roles, but many still remain.
