This festival includes: films of different genres recognizing the exploitation of nature and how it relates to women. In addition, all these stem from Male domination and control giving a more holisitc and inclusive world view. Lastly, these films contain relationships between human, non human and Earth and the nuturing and care for all life forms rather than being left behind for profit or power.

Mad Max (Fury Road 2015)

A collapsed civilization living under tyranny with Joe in charge. When Furioso arrives, she is able to lead the five wives and Max victoriously through a deathly high speed chase through the wasteland. I chose this film because it replaces the idea of patriarchy to matriarchy and the nature of human culture as a whole. This relates to ecofeminism in that it depicts both survival and freedom but also preys on the downfall of women and loss of humanity as a whole.

Teeth (2007)

This film is about a young teen who is active in her high school club involving the topic of chastity. However, when a boy comes along, the club soon learns that she is living the vagina dentata myth from here it takes a turn. This film involves ecofeminism because it is about gender and power and how feminism through the media empowers and is often misunderstood in binary terms of the relationship with gender and how it relates to the audience.

The Shining (1980)

A family heads to an isolated hotel where an evil presence is lurking, and a psychic son sees his horrific future from both the past and what's going to happen. The Shining represents Ecofeminism due to the depiction of Wendy being a “damsel in distress”the abused wife and helpless, but also the weather not permitting her to make a safe escape.

Moana (2016)

Moana is about an adventurous teen going out to sea to save her village and its people. Moana encounters Demi-God Maui who questions Moanas every move but teaches her how to become a master-way finder. Along the way, she fights sea monsters and against all odds fulfills her quest finding her true identity. I chose this film because it displays how Moana is a fierce independent woman who loves people and their environment. When Maui comes on board he wants to do all the work and be alone even though Moana proves she's capable of doing so much more. Through this, she not only overcomes the weather but shows Maui she can do it with or without him.

The Witch (2015)

A family whose youngest son vanishes, blaming the eldest who was watching him at the time he was last seen. Suspected of witchcraft, the family is taught values such as faith and loyalty. I chose this film because it starts with a female figure that is misunderstood and undecided, evolving to the subjugation of the Puritans through culture, religion and social aspects. The only redemption is rejecting the religion that displaced her.

Mulan (2020)

Mulan is about a woman who enters the draft out of fear her elderly father will not make it. At this point, she is technically not allowed to serve, cleverly moves her way past by impersonating a man and then ends up falling in love. The reason why I chose this film is because Mulan endured training camp, and was constantly doubted by her male colleagues (they accepted her because she was a guy) and still thought of her as weak. In addition, she challenges older figures who also had a hard path growing up. Lastly, the reference “Make it a man's world” was the idea that only men can achieve chi, but Mulan broke the barriers and stood up and was proud and did not back down.

Mother (2017)

A young woman who resides in the countryside with her husband and in the middle of the night gets an unexpected knock at the door. It does not just stop there, his wife and kids soon arrive there after and cause terror. Come to find out, the woman tries to find out why her husband is so friendly to these newcomers. I chose this film because it displays “woman nature” interconnection between both oppression and women going through hardships. In addition, it delves into how to be a mother (listen,understand) and acknowledge non-human life forms. Lastly, it warns us of the consequences if we fail to listen to mother (nature)

Princess Mononoke (1997)

a princess goes on a quest to heal any evil that has scared him and possess a boar he met. I chose this movie because throughout the film, Princess Mononoke displays that women and men should be equally the same, despite their gender, race, and biological traits given. Typically men dominate in most things, However, Lady Eboshi made all the women including herself become the most superior gender.

The Birds (1963)

A man must protect his family from the unexpected bird attacks. I chose this film because it supports the idea of feminism given the fact that the role Mrs.Wright plays a typical housewife and the birds symbolize the loneliness through the marriage with Mr. Wright

White Cube (2020)

Visitors from all over the world are familiar with this white cube, but the fate of this cube displays nothing but horror being overlooked as an oil plantation as well as a birth place to jump start the economy. Workers at this plantation make sculptures that are replicated and made in multiples and they are all made out of chocolate stationed in New York. These workers own less than a dollar a day under such harsh conditions who buy land which later is confiscated by the government. I chose this movie because this film displays the difference between capitalist and ecological well being. In addition, it explores the interconnection between women and the exploitation of nature.

Princess Mononoke (1997)
