Melanie has learned about the date and now plans to keep track of the date forever.

I am very curious about the purpose of the children: a purpose which seems to be dark based on where I left off. Something that furthers my curiosity is what these children know and are excited by; for example, the child Melanie was excited by a simple date.

I would compare this book with the show, “The Last of Us.” This show has some kind of infection that devastates the human race, leaving a microscopic fraction left, which leads to many groups such as militaries trying to cure it.

A song that matches the mood and/or tone of the book is the Theme Song, “Extinction,” from the game Ark Survival Evolved. There are parts in the song where it’s calm but still slightly tense, but, in other parts, that tension breaks loose for a moment.

I chose this meme because, in the story, Caldwell decides to open her mouth and say something that she should know upsets Justineau: she says something that compels Justineau to punch Caldwell.

Twist: Melanie gets taken by Junkers, which galvanizes Ms. Justineau to do something crazy. All of Sargent's attempts to protect the group will prove feckless as Justineau lashes out at Caldwell or does something reckless that endangers the group.
