I metered the bulb at f.8 but as you can see from the first image it is way overexposed. I then tried exposing at f.11 and later at f.13 to give myself a few different options in post processing. 

From looking at the image we noticed that the bulb and the cone are at slightly different angles and don't quite align together. This can be easily solved by placing a little bit of blue tack at the top/glass part of the bulb. 

I would have liked the object to be larger in the frame but unfortunately this is as I could get with the minimum focus distance of my 85mm lens. Again I would have liked it to be bigger but was limited but the inability of my lens to focus at such short distances. As Iain pointed out the cone is slightly tilted upwards because I have blue tack underneath it. attached is my contact sheet for the illusion task. I decided to reshoot as I felt the red background didn't look as clean as the blue. I also took away the plastic bit that was holding up the cone as it gave off a shadow unlike the cone shape.

I intend to put it together with the beads to create an illusion of it pouring beads.

I also brought in cotton wool, ink and a jar to create an illusion with the beads. I blue tacked the cotton wool to the blue background, creating a cloud and then held up the beads to create rain, and then added water and blue ink to the jar. This shows a range of colours on top of a subwoofer which we controlled the frequency of to lift the paint off of the subwoofer and create an effect that makes the paint look alive. I decided to experiment a bit with the set up to achieve this photograph: with the help of Shonagh and Lewis, I added a coloured backdrop to the composition to make the green colour stand a bit more. While Shonagh was holding the cardboard for the backdrop, Lewis was adjusting the pitch to achieve the kind of bubbles we wanted. By lowering the tripod and changing the shooting angle, I was able to capture the single drops halfway in the air. To enhance the colours, I then added some contrast and some more brightness in postproduction. This set up allowed me to direct the light and create a nice amount of contrast and play with shadows and lights. I could also adjust the power of the lights and that allowed me to avoid overexposed or underexposed areas. This specific exercise was quite challenging due to the focal length of this macro lens. I remember trying to narrow the aperture but Iain explained that due to the compression of this lens changing the f stop would not make a difference. I then had to move back and forth with my camera, although slightly, to achieve the focus I wanted. I found this dried slice of banana (?) or maybe apple with a bunch of other props and it occurred to me to place in on an LED panel set on the lower possible brightness. to take this shot I set up my pinecone on a little table and lit it with LED macro lights which I positioned just above my subject so the parts that would be in focus would be well lit. I used a macro lens to take this photo as it allowed me to focus in on the pinecone at a short distance therefore capture a great amount of detail

to capture this image I used a tank filled with water with a white background. behind the background I had two high speed flashes set up along with one on the left side of the tank and the master attached to the camera. I set my camera to take continuous shots with a fast shutter speed. when dropping the lemon and lime into the tank it created this ripple effect to the water

by dropping the lemon into the water at a high speed it creates this ripple effect with the water. I chose to use a lemon as  felt this was a bright coloured object that would stand out in this image. I choose to use these bulb objects as I felt they looked the best with the polarising filter. I set them up so that the one of the bulbs was hovering just above the other one. I like how the light reflects off of the bulb creating a holographic reflection. 

to capture this image I first set up my camera and a table. I poisoned a light box so the light was facing directly at the camera. I did have to make a very careful selection and invert it to remove the strap from my watch and then also use a different blending mode to get the medal to show through with the watch facia in as well which was tricky and took a few attempts and restarts to get it right. It was challenging to try and make the image look interesting when only a portion of it was in focus.

For my composition, I used what appears to be a dried out mini pumpkin and a leaf. I liked having something that would make the pumpkin stand out, but also add some texture and interest to the image.

I moved the lighting around a lot to get some nice highlights and shadows. I feel like I did a good job with it because the shadow allows the pumpkin to really pop out. Plus, the lighting on the pumpkin helps to highlight the part I was trying to focus on.

On the post production side of things, I didn't do much because I didn't feel like I had to. I adjusted the colours to help make the pumpkin stand out slightly more and made the shadows a little darker.

I found this plastic and wasn't really sure what to do with it at first, but I eventually got the idea of trying to twist it into the shape of a flower. I used a clasp I found to hold it together and moved it into the position I wanted.

Compositionally, I liked having space around the plastic and the contrast of all the colours on a black background. I took a whole variety of images, swapping between vertical and horizontal positioning of the camera. I also moved the plastic into the middle of the frame, but I ultimately decided on keeping it on the right with open space on the left.

Personally, I feel as though this image works well because it gives off this idea that plastic is beautiful in its own way. I like the open space because it gives the plastic flower more room and doesn't feel claustrophobic. I practiced doing it multiple times with plain water - no colouring - before I was given the suggestion of using milk. I personally did not like the milk and found it less interesting in terms of splashes. However, with the milk now mixed in the tray that I was dropping the water into, it allowed the clear water to show up better on camera. I found this to be more interesting to me personally, and very simplistic.

Compositionally, I found it hard to position the camera in a way that would capture the drop in an interesting position. This was because I wouldn't really know where the splash would be until it happened. In this case, I had managed to capture the splash and leave enough room for the rippling of the water.

In editing, I adjusted the colours and cropping. I didn't feel as though I needed to overly edit this image because I liked it as it was.

I would say this image is successful because it captures the splash of water.
