Lila opened the box carefully. A tiny, green creature looked up at her. It had big, round eyes and four thin arms. It made a soft “beep-beep” sound. Lila was scared at first, but the creature smiled.

“Hello,” Lila said slowly. The creature’s eyes lit up. It took out a small device from its pocket and pressed a button. “I’m Zog,” a clear voice said. “I’m from Planet Vega. My ship broke down here.”

Lila felt sorry for Zog. She said, “You can stay with me. My parents won’t mind.” She put Zog in her backpack and took him home.

Every day, Lila brought Zog food—he loved apples and carrots. They played hide-and-seek in the house. Zog told Lila about his planet: there were purple trees and rivers of blue water. Lila showed Zog her favorite books and toys.

One night, Zog’s device beeped loudly. “My people found me!” he said happily. Lila was happy but sad too.

The next evening, a bright light filled the backyard. A big, silver ship landed. Zog hugged Lila. “Thank you for being my friend,” he said. He gave Lila a small, green stone. “It will let you talk to me anytime.”

Zog got on the ship. The ship flew away into the stars. Lila held the stone tightly. She knew they would always be friends.
