One strength of forensic scientists is that they can identify characteristics and create in depth profiles in cases to uncover criminals. An example case is the vampires of Sacramento where the forensic scientists played a massive role in identifying Richard Chase, a serial killer, by creating a forensic profile based on characteristics of the crime scene.

One major weakness with a case study

One weakness with forensic scientists is that they can mix up evidence in cases which can result in the criminal getting away or not being found until later. A case study to support this is Stephen Lawrence murder trial. A forensic scientist called Yvonne Turner carried out tests on a jacket found at the suspect Gary Dobson's home, however she wrote the wrong number on the tests results which hindered the case quite a lot. She had mixed results from a different case which caused problems for each case.
