In 2012, the lost and confused Whitney Wolfe decided to get together with some of her friends and go out to a fancy dinner. At This dinner Whitney found her self talking with some of the people she met there one of them being Sean Radd, CEO of Tinder, when he was working on the dating App Tinder. This was still new at the time with there being really only one dating app option, Match.com , and Tinder has not been launched yet. Whitney was very surprised and interested in the idea, she was also talented with technology and marketing so she said, “ I think I can help you market your app” (How I built this, Bumble). This lead her to a new job of marketing for Match Box, Name of app before Tinder, and earning her founder role through contributions and early involvement.

After working for the new popular dating app Tinder for 2 years, Whitney files a lawsuit against her previous partner, whom worked at Tinder, alleging sexual assault in 2014. This lawsuit lead to Whitney getting involved with the public eye and popularity, in a bad way, from people who were intrigued. Whitney can’t legally talk about her law suit against Tinder but she did mention how, “the comments and how people spoke about me, completely robbed every ounce of confidence I had” (How I Built This: Bumble). After the lawsuit, Whitney felt as she was at her all time low with her thinking the internet defined her. After her realization of her self worth she was able to see the real problem of the lack of online accountability. Whitney said this is where she really started to work and realized that you couldn’t kill ambition so she pursued her passion of creating. Whitney was able to collect $1 Million from the lawsuit and with Whitney pursuing her passion after the lawsuit led to the creation of Bumble.
