1) Who is your Zine About?

My zine is about my Godmother, Julia.

2) What is your favorite page or pages and why?

I’d have to say my favorite pages are the first question, I like how I cut out stars and glued them on. I am surprised I stuck through in the whole mini Julia motif on each page. I did en up using a sticker machine at home I never used so that made me feel good.

3) Has the subject of the Zine seen the finished work and if so, what did they say?

She has not seen the zine completed yet because she is busy with work. I’ll be send her images of it. I know she’ll be very happy when she sees — my biggest supporter in art.

4) What would you change if you could re-do the project?

If I could redo this project I would be more creative in adding glitter, more color, add more images, use more newspaper. I feel like I was limited in what I could put in since I felt like I ran out of time. Unfortunately it looked more different than what I planned.

Who is your Zine About? This zine is about my cousin and childhood best friend. We grew up together and were super close, and I wanted to choose her to capture the memories I have of her.
What is your favorite page or pages and why? My favorite pages include the one about her favorite names, the baby picture of her helps develop this deeper understanding of the childhood names. Another is her answer about what is her idea of perfect happiness, she talked about how it’s her grandma’s house which I found to be super heartfelt. How she would just love being in her presence as she was younger when she visited her grandma in Eritrea.
Has the subject of the Zine seen the finished work and if so, what did they say? I haven’t shown the finished work to her yet!
What would you change if you could re-do the project? I would take the time to plan out each page properly through sketches and rough drafts instead of just winging the pages and doing it as I go.

I completed the project in InDesign and Illustrator, so everything is shown here in a 8.5x11 landscape spread. When I printed it, I cut and attached them to multimedia paper so it was a little thicker.

the motif I used was a mixture of windows 98 and XP. all of the backgrounds I used are the stock backgrounds that came loaded onto a windows xp operating system. I used scalable vectors that I found online to make the project a little easier for me. especially the program windows. other graphics are pulled from old screenshots using photoshop.

you can see that there is a little gap at the bottom, that is because printers do not print edge to edge and I wasn't sure the margin that would print on the library computers. It ended up working out for the most part. I could have probably adjusted it more but I did not want to spend another $2.50 on printing lol!

What are your favorite pages and why?
my favorite pages are spreads 8 and 9 because his answers are ironic. Spreads 5 and 10 are close seconds because I love the photos.
Has the subject of the Zine seen the finished work and if so, what did they say?
My husband has seen the completed zine. he loved it and was actually very involved in the process by encouraging me and giving me feedback along the way.
What would you change if you could re-do the project?
I would fix the margins on the bottom and give more room for error during cutting. I mentioned in an earlier post that printers do not print edge to edge. Normally, publishers/printers use a slightly larger paper and slice the bleed off. However, I was just using a plain printer at the library and had no idea what the kind of margin it would leave when printing. It was almost spot on, but not quite. it could have benefited with a few more pixels on all sides. When I was cutting the zine and gluing it, I found that because it was not exact I ended up shaving more off than I thought I would.

What is my zine about?

A interview with my best friend Hope.

What is your favorite page and why?

My favorite page would have to be page 8. The question was “Which living person do you most despise” and Hope answered it with “The president”. I like how simple her answer was and the page layout.

Yes, her exacts words were “I loveeeee it looks so good.”

What would you change if you could re-do the project?

I struggled a lot with printing out my zine. It actually took about 30 minutes because my printer sucked so I would definitely go to Fedex next time!

My zine is about a close friend of mine, Arely Chavez. We met in freshmen year of high school when we were gossiping about her sister and drama she had. I had realized mid conversation that I already knew the story, it actually turned out to be that our sisters were friends in high school. My favorite pages in the zine are the one with the snake and the last page. The one with the snake I named “Unspoken” and added very little to it because I wanted it to represent the broken relationship, I think the way I portrayed it was just the way I was hoping to. The last page I named “Rosa Con Espinas” which translates to “Rose With Thorns”, I love this page because it’s the way I view Arely. She’s the funniest person I know and the kindest, but very protective of herself and the people she cares for. Arely has viewed the zine, she said she loved the small details I added. She also mentioned that the “Unspoken” page was perfect because she’s afraid of snakes, which is something I didn’t even know. What I would change is that I would do it on thick paper instead of regular paper because if I messed up when gluing down the pieces, the paper would ripped easily.

Here is the cover of my Zine. It is about my best friend Gaby. She is so talented and spooky! She goes by Gabriela Luna so I used this moon fabric for the cover. We also love liquid death so I one day decided to cut up a can and figure out how to incorporate it so I used it on the cover to hang these beads for the title.
