I felt that writing this was important for my development and understanding as an actor and what I want to do.

This scene is a very hitting scene for my character. The group is asked the questions “who you are” and also “what art do you want to make” this moment is really big for my character it helps him motivate and find himself more and really questions on what he wants to do and how he will achieve it. This helps to inspire him and is the moment that he finds out what he wants to really do and how he plans to achieve this goal.

This is the scene that really makes my characters goals come to life he wanted to be with all his friends and create his own movement and dance band with his closest friends. He always see his favourite band having fun and being close friends and this is something that really inspired my character especially when Alex asked the group the important question this being my characters answer to that.

It was a really fun movement piece to create and it really connects and highlights the bonds between each character and shows how strong they are and really brings the group closer together after the recent news that is delivered to them.

This was a fun task to help me to get into character more. I felt all of those songs connected well with my character through the lyrics but also through his favourite music songs and favourite band being “Take That”. I listen to this playlist before a rehearsal on the bus or walking into the space and through different parts of the day or when I’m rehearsing alone. I feel it really helps me get into my character and also right mindset of my character.

2.6 Character Clothing

Our director had the idea for all cast members to have different colours tops or jumpers. And to have dark bottom half for trousers. The idea for this was to show each member through a colour, I chose the colour light blue this was to show my character and highlight him in a certain way. This being a light colour is more friendly and open which is what Joey is. I felt this matched Joey’s style as well as it’s something he would usually wear as well. For the bottom half I will be wearing dark trousers instead of joggers as I feel this matches more with Joey’s casual dress sense opposed to joggers. I feel the costume choices work really well with Joey highlighting the relaxed nature he has. The bright colours show how he stands out from the rest of the group in his own way at times.

3.1 Sing Sing Directed By Greg Kwedar

In the 2023 movie Sing Sing is about a man who was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit and ends up performing in a prison theatre group with other inmates until a new member comes, at which point the group decides to make a comedic play. All of this was based on an actual event. In addition to the dangerous inmates, prison is not a pleasant place to be, and being falsely convicted won't make things any better. The purpose of the theatre company was to provide a getaway from all of that. This served as and helped for the inspiration for the creation of our play “Centre Stage". Since the drama group that Alex leads in our show serves as a safe space for all of the characters, who know that they can leave their worries at the door and have that chance to be free in there own space with people they are close or can relate too as they all want the same things. Additionally, there is the issue of Tyler, a new member causing some conflict among the group at the beginning , but by the end everyone is at ease with each other in the group.

I wanted to write down and document my roles and what I would be doing within the company. Setting up some of my goals and aims and making sure I am achieving that and to make sure that I’m giving my all and being efficient and productive and helping out equally within the company with what I’m doing.

Alex- Joey has a really good relationship with Alex he knows he can approach her if he needs any support and knows that she can be a safe space he also likes to joke around with Alex sometimes when she asks questions he may respond back with a joke. Joey is very appreciative of Alex as Alex was the one to set up the group and it means a lot to Joey that he can be there.

Dylan- Joey is very close to Tyler and is someone he sees as a very good friend to Joey. He almost looks up to Dylan sometimes as how positive he can be and how kind and supportive he is to the group and really makes Joey feel safe in the room.

Billie- Joey sees Billie as a good close friend he knows he can always talk to her but he also makes sure he can always look out for her and support her as well.

Kris- Joey sees Kris as a good friend he isn’t as close to Kris as others but has a good relationship with her. It took a while for Kris to open to Joey at first but now they talk all the time and they talk about similar interests which they talk about in the group.

Tyler- Joey at first struggles with Tyler when he first joins the group he wants to be close with him and become friends with him but Tyler seems very closed off and doesn’t want to talk to Joey. Joey tries his best to talk to Tyler but is often very shut down. Sometimes causing Joey to think that Tyler may not want to be friends or even he may be picked on. But by end of play Joey shakes off that worry as Tyler grows more into the group and helps Joey by offering to join his boy band something that Joey is really appreciative of helping them form a good friendship.

This was something I found useful for me in learning about what my character could have been dealing with as they often experience loneliness. I wanted to learn more about the characteristics and things as someone who felt alone would go through to have a better understanding and help me with the understanding of my character. This helped me learn more about my characters past through this and what they may have experienced before.

I wanted to learn more about Bullying as it’s something my character has experienced quite often. I wanted to further research and explore some of the effects bullying has on people. I explored and found out that it can cause stress anxiety loneliness. I wanted to research and really find out about what my character has gone through and understand things they may have experienced before this helped to learn more about my character and also the mindset that they may be in. Helping me more with my character.

Something that really help me with character work was full voice. In rehearsals we did full voice work to really help with our voices on stage. We did different full voice techniques in different scenes helping see what works for that scene really helping to push voice more. I found when doing full voice it really helps me to project more and have a good volume to my voice but also helping me to articulate and pronounce words correctly as well. This also helps me with confidence in my character as well as it helps me to have a clear voice leading to confidence in myself for my character helping me to get best out of them. We also did whaling as well to help support this. After we did full voice we would often run that scene helping me feel both more in character and also having the correct tone in my voice for the scene really noticing the changes from the start to the end. This for me as an actor was crucial for helping to develop my voice for my character on stage.

I also worked on developing my character further through character diary’s. This helped me to get a further understanding of my character how they think what is there average day like how do they feel in each moment this helping me to continue to keep working on my character even further.
