  • The largest and most important contribution was obviously the system of government, democracy.  Athens of Greece had created first the democracy in history. It wasn't perfect or even like the modern day democracy. The Greeks had a lottery for government positions while we have elections for examples.
  • The second major contribution is their art styles. Most art is still by the Greek standards. They focused on more beauty than realism.
  • Philosophy had made huge improvements. These were made by Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. These philosophers had discovered democracy, social classes, and leaps in many fields in Science such as logic and astronomy.  
  • Drama was also founded in Theater. Along with those dramas, literature was also had large impacts. Homer created the first epic novels of early Greece, Iliad and Odyssey .

  • From 500-338B.C.
  • 499-474B.C. was the time of the Greeks fighting the Persians. 
  •  After this, Athens became the head player and Pericles took over and made a direct democracy in Athens.
  • Sparta began war on Athens in 431B.C. and lead a Spartan win in 405B.C. After this power struggles became and cause later events to occur with Macedonia

  • Alexander the Great had inherited the Greek states and all of Macedonia and had fought the Persians bt died at 32, never finishing his war goals. The path left before begins the Hellenistic Period
  • Since Alexander the Great, all of the conquered lands broke up into different kingdoms, all influenced by Greece.

  • The Romans tried to a Greek-like democracy, but most of the power was in the hands of the wealthy. 
  • they invested in the public like sending poor children to school and public works like the aqueducts and creating public building such as temples and theaters.
  • Romans had the same taste in art as the Greeks in sculptures.
  •   They also created their sophisticated architecture using Greek's base blocks.
