And your Lord has decreed that you worship not except Him, and to parents, good

to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as

they brought me up [when I was] sm.

-These Quranic ÉyÉt highlight that after Allah’s right, the greatest of all human rights

is the right of parents. Therefore, the children should obey, serve, and respect their

parents. Society should ensure children are grateful and respectful to their parents.

They should serve them as they nursed and brought them up in their childhood.

Above all, this verse is not merely a moral recommendation but is the basis of the

rights and powers of parents, which are detailed in the Books of ×adÊth and Fiqh.

In explaining the above ÉyÉt, Muftī MuÍammad ShÉfÊ mentioned two aspects of

dealing with parents:

On the authority of Abu Ya'la Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him),

that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

"Verily Allah has prescribed ihsan (perfection) in all things. Thus if you kill, kill

well; and if you slaughter, slaughter well. Let each one of you sharpen his blade

and let him spare suffering to the animal he slaughters."

[Muslim]

This ÍadÊth serves as an application to the concept of Iḥsān. The meaning of "killing

well" is to strive to do the action well, without causing unnecessary pain or torment

through it. “Slaughtering well" implies that people are to show kindness to the

animal being slaughtered, not to push it to the ground cruelly or harshly, nor drag it

from one place to another.

Besides, it also includes facing it towards the Qiblah, pronouncing the name of

Allah upon it, cleanly and quickly cutting the throat and the two jugular veins, and

finally leaving it until it has turned cold.

This ÍadÊth also includes recognising and acknowledging Allah's favours upon

Muslims, thanking Him .

Sunat Ab’adh & Hai’ah

Sunat Ab’adh consists of seven matters:

1. The first Tasyahud (recitation during the sitting of the second rakaat of Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha’).

2. Sending blessings (*Selawat*) upon the Prophet SAW during the first Tasyahud.

3. Sitting for the first Tasyahud.

4. Sending blessings upon the family of the Prophet SAW in the final Tasyahud.

5. The Qunut supplication in the second rakaat of Subuh prayer.

6. Sending blessings upon the Prophet SAW and his family during the Qunut.

7. Standing while reciting the Qunut.

> Note: If these are omitted intentionally or unintentionally, it is recommended to compensate with Sujud Sahwi (Prostration of Forgetfulness) at the end of the prayer. The recitation is the same as a normal prostration and can be done before or after the salam.

Disliked Acts (Makruh) in Solat

1. Turning the head during prayer without a purpose.

2. Looking upwards.

3. Praying near food that has been served.

4. Praying while holding back the urge to urinate or defecate.

5. Praying in a state of extreme drowsiness.

WUDUK (ABLUTION)

Pillars (Rukun) of Wuduk

1. Intention.

2. Washing the face.

3. Washing both arms up to the elbows.

4. Wiping a portion of the head (at least three hairs or a section of the scalp).

5. Washing both feet up to the ankles.

6. Sequence (*Tertib*).

#### Valid Conditions of Wuduk

* Islam.

* Mumaiyiz (Age of discernment).

Purity from menstruation (haid*) and postnatal bleeding (*nifas*).

Using Mutlak* water (pure and purifying water).

* No barriers preventing water from reaching the skin.

* No substances on the limbs that change the nature of the water.

#### Matters That Invalidate Wuduk

* Anything exiting from the private parts (front or back).

* Sleep where the buttocks are not firmly seated.

* Loss of consciousness/sanity.

* Skin contact between a man and a woman (subject to specific school of thought discussions).

* Touching the human genitals with the palm of the hand.

#### Frequency of Washing/Wiping

* 1 time: Obligatory (*Wajib*).

* 2 times: Sunnah.

* 3 times: Sunnah.

* More than 3: Disliked (*Makruh*).

#### Sunnah Acts in Wuduk

Reciting Basmalah*.

* Washing the hands.

* Rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nose.

* Running fingers through a thick beard.

* Wiping the entire head.

* Washing beyond the required boundaries of the limbs.

Continuity (Muwalah* – washing limbs one after another without long breaks).

TAYAMMUM

Reasons for Tayammum

* Prevention from using water due to physical absence (no water within reachable distance) or physical barriers (water is nearby but guarded by an enemy/danger).

2. Wiping the face and both hands with dust/earth using two separate taps on the dust.

Definition of Khushu’

* Khushu’ in prayer is a Sunnah, not a pillar.

* It involves focus, humbling oneself, calmness, understanding what is recited, realizing one is conversing with Allah, and avoiding futile actions during prayer.

#### Obstacles to Khushu’

Distracting thoughts/whispers (Was-was*).

* The heart or mind being preoccupied with things one loves (distractions of desire) or things one hates.

#### Ways to Achieve Khushu’

* Perform preparations before the prayer.

* Pray on time.

Cleanse oneself and use a miswak* (tooth-stick).

* Do not pray when food has already been served.

* Do not pray while suppressing the urge to use the toilet.

* Wear clean and pure clothing.

* Do not eat or drink excessively before prayer.

* Pray in a place free from distractions.

* Perform wuduk perfectly and do not waste water.

* Understand and reflect on the recitations.

Understand the Fiqh* (rules) of prayer perfectly.

* Incorporate more sunnah acts into the prayer.

* Supplicate to Allah.

* Avoid thinking about worldly matters.

3. Muḥāsabah (Self-reflection) – evaluating one’s actions and intentions

4. ʿIffah (Modesty & self-restraint) – guarding oneself from immoral acts

5. Tawāḍuʿ (Humility) – removing pride and recognizing dependence on Allah

Key Virtues and Lessons

Character Building: Fasting is meaningless if one does not give up lying and bad behavior.

Patience (Sabr): It builds patience in obeying God, avoiding what is forbidden, and facing life's hardships.

Empathy (Rahmah): Hunger and thirst humble a person, allowing them to feel the suffering of the poor.

Generosity: There is a great reward for feeding others at sunset; the person who provides food for someone to break their fast receives the same reward as the one who fasted.

Zakah System

• Zakah promotes spiritual purification and social responsibility.

• It is mentioned alongside Salah (prayer) in the Quran 32 times, highlighting its importance.

Zakah vs Sadaqah

• Zakah is sometimes referred to as Sadaqah in the Quran.

• Zakah is obligatory, while Sadaqah is voluntary.

Virtues of Zakah

1. Tawakkul (Reliance on Allah)

• Demonstrates full trust in Allah rather than in wealth.

• Giving Zakah strengthens reliance on Allah, knowing He will provide and multiply what is spent for His sake.

2. Ukhuwah (Brotherhood)
