Idola Saint-Jean was a Quebec journalist and a feminist. She was born on May 19th 1880 without any siblings. Idola's father was a Montreal lawyer named Edmond and her mother's name was Emma. Idola went to an all girls Catholic school and took courses for stage directing at a theatre owned by Julia Bennati. In the 1900's she chose to make a stage name for herself when she was performing. In 1903 she went to Paris to study with Constant Coquelin, and later went to the University of Paris. After Idola came back to her home country she became a professor of her French language at the McGill University.

Idola Saint-Jean was known for being the first women in Quebec to run as a candidate for the federal election. She also spent 20 years of her life helping change women's legal rights.

Her actions have hugely impacted Quebec and she will be remembered by many, many women who look up to her. Idola was the first ever candidate in a federal election and also made voting a possibility to all different women in Quebec even though to some men it sounded ridiculous. She lived to fight for women's rights and accomplished a huge goal just five years before she passed away.
