B: over the years there has been a change in how much influence I have on certain people in certain settings because as I get older I have a different perspective on how people treat me and what they do for me. what I mean is that some friends stay and some friends go depending on their actions and how I identify their actions and how it will benefit me. I am basically using my judgement as I get older so see who I should and shouldn't be around.

The weakest appeal is the way the poster is, I think it can look more catchy, I just don't know how to do certain things on canvas.

A. What makes Bay Plaza special?

Bay Plaza in the Bronx is not just a place to shop, it’s also a place where people hang out, eat, and spend time together. It has a lot of popular stores like Macy’s, H&M, and AMC Theatres. What makes it different from other malls is how it feels like it belongs to the Bronx. It's full of people from all backgrounds, and the mall shows that in the stores, music, and food they have.

The unspoken rules:

Most people follow basic mall rules which are: don't run, don’t make too much noise, and respect others. People understand how to act by watching others or from experience.

History:

Bay Plaza Shopping Mall was rebuilt in 2014. It used to be just an outdoor walking mall but was rebuilt and made into an indoor and outdoor shopping mall. It was built to give Bronx residents more shopping options. Before, people had to travel far for big stores. Now, they have one close to home. This history makes the mall feel like it’s made for the community.

How it supports or limits social interactions:

There are spots like the food court/ fast food spots or near the movie theater where people meet up and hang out. But you can not just loiter. Security would ask you to leave if you’re not shopping or causing problems.

B. Who can come to Bay Plaza, and who can't?

Who gets in and why:

Anyone can come in because the mall is open to the public. But not everyone feels like they belong. Some people might feel uncomfortable if they don’t have money to shop or feel out of place for other reasons. Not many tourists go to the mall because they don't really know about that mall and i dont think they would want to go to the mall in the Bronx to shop.

Feeling welcome or excluded:

Most Bronx locals feel welcome because the mall reflects their culture. But someone from outside the area might not feel like they “fit in” if they’re not used to the fast-paced city feel.

Who has power here:

Security guards and mall staff have the most control. They make sure people follow the rules and the mall stays clean and safe. They show their power by wearing uniforms and watching people on cameras.

Money matters:

It’s free to walk in, but shopping there isn’t free. Some stores are expensive, and eating at the food court can add up. People who don’t have a lot of money might feel like they can’t do much at the mall. People also have to pay to park in the mall building parking lot which is only $3 but if you park by the outside stores it is free.

How different groups fit in:

Bay Plaza is very diverse. You see people of all ages, different races, and backgrounds. It’s common to hear Spanish and English being spoken. People with disabilities can get around, but not every space is easy to access. Mainly you see elders with their family or with their other elder friends mostly on the weekends. On the weekdays you see more middle and high schoolers because there are a lot of schools near the schools and they go to the mall after school to eat and hang out with friends.

Security and control:

There are cameras everywhere and security walking around. This helps people feel safe, but it also reminds you that you’re being watched.

What the upkeep:

The mall is pretty clean and well-kept. That shows the owners care about making the space look good for visitors and businesses. It also tells you they want to keep things running smoothly.

C. What I Know and Don’t Know About Bay Plaza

What I know:

I’ve been to Bay Plaza before and I’ve looked at its website and news articles. I’ve seen how it works in real life. It is busy, loud, and full of energy. I know lots of people go there with their families and friends to eat or mostly shop. They also sometimes have events for elders or kids depending on the holliday or season.

What I don’t know yet:

I don’t know how store owners feel about working there or how the mall has changed over time. I can learn more by talking to people who work there or doing online research.

My own thoughts and background:

Because I’ve been to other malls, I might assume all malls are the same, but Bay Plaza is unique. Being from the Bronx helps me understand the vibe, but I need to remember that everyone sees the space differently.

Ways to learn more:

I can watch how people act at the mall, ask questions to people who go there often, or read about its history in articles or library books.

6. Walking Research Reflection

When I actually walk through Bay Plaza, I notice things I wouldn’t from just reading about it like the smells of food, the music in stores, or how crowded it gets at certain times. This helps me understand how people use the space and what it feels like to be there.

She tells me this with a calm smile, the kind that comes from years of learning to keep going.

Her mother was her role model, waking up at 4:30 every morning to work as a legal administrative assistant, always smiling, always patient. “No matter how tired she was, she’d come home happy. She taught me to be strong and to stand up for myself.”

Now she works alongside a judge, something she never thought she’d do without a college degree. “I’m proud of myself,” she says. “I didn’t take the easy route, but I got here. And I know my mom’s proud too.”
