Iesha wears heavy makeup and a skimpy black dress, and Starr can sense the tension between her parents in that moment. The King Lords show up saying they would pay for the funeral but Mrs. Rosalie refused their "filthy money." This event makes star think and realize Khalil was apart of a gang and feels even more guilty.
MY Thoughts

Okay, now that I've finished writing all the summaries and reading the book i will give my thoughts from the beginning of the book to the end, In the beginning the book felts slow, which is what happens when you read a new book, i was indifferent with the book and was just amused with the language in the beginning, but as the book continued i became engrossed and kept reading, i got a little emotional when thinking about if this happened to me and if i was in this situation what i would've done. This really does stir the pot of police brutality towards black people but that is just the world we live in and it may be a long time before it completely dissipates. i remember from one of my classes a teacher taught me that in each religion, or group, or people. there will always be an extremist among them. this has the same element of police brutality and even racism, some people just take things too far from the ideals of their beliefs and try to implement them to other who they believe is wrong and unjust. some examples would be ISIS, an extremist group of Muslims, the KKK an extremist group of Christians. The Holocaust, while not a group involved certain people of their shared beliefs. The book surprised me by how much character development and plot was made and i cant wait to watch the movie. These are my thoughts on the book

Sincerely,
Manuel Basaldua
