He also could have grew up with colored people around him and felt comfortable and seen nothing wrong with it. He felt that people shouldn't be slaves and controlled with very little rights. He didn't want slaves to be forced to work all day and get very little food and water and thinks they need to be free and have not to deal with pain for not doing something.
