EARLY YEARS My first memories of reading are of the the Little Critter Collection and of Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss! I vividly remember having a "life changing" moment when I read the entire Green Eggs and Ham book aloud to my dad for the first time! What a great feeling it was!

Library Memories: My library memories of elementary were spending afternoons after school in the public library children's section browsing books or listening to books on tape while we waited on my mom to pick my sister and I up on her way home from work!

TEENAGE READER: As a middle school student (6th-8th grade) I remember being very fond of poetry books and of The Babysitter's Club series when I did read. I was very interested in sports and school organizations and did not make leisure reading a priority. However, I was subscribed to this series, every month or so, 4 new books would come in the mail! In High School, most of my reading was the "must reads" in the English classes. At this time, I was so into sports, clubs, and working, I was not making a lot of time for leisure reads. I did make time for Nicholas Sparks books at this time though!

READING AS AN ADULT: My Favorite Adult author is Nicholas Sparks. They are heart warming stories, usually with great endings, and easy reads. I like his books so much that when they are released, regardless of the title/topic, I buy it because I know I will enjoy it! I still pick up each of his books!

I really liked reading as a young child once I hit that moment of "I can do this." I was very motivated by Accelerated Reader; I loved the challenge of the big books worth more points and I loved having my name on the wall in the 50 point club, 100 point club, 200 point club, etc. There were no prizes or rewards, just that pride of your name on that poster. Because of Accelerated Reader, I was introduced to more challenging, "bigger" books than I probably would have been if not for the incentive to earn points. How great though; I read books that looked intimidating so I could earn points and ended up loving the books! Through AR, I discovered all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Little House series, the Indian in the Cupboard series, and Betsy Byars books!

Children's books! I am a mom to a 3 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. We read at least two picture books a night to each child; in my son's room, we mostly read trucks, construction, emergency vehicle books, and animal books. On the nights I read to my daughter, it is a lot of Barbie, Peppa Pig, Berenstain Bears, and other fiction books.

I try to incorporate as many books as possible into every subject. For example, today, we introduced 2d shapes with Marilynn Burns book The Greedy Triangle. The kids were so engaged! Friday last week, I read a NonFiction book about MLK JR. Reading, Math, Social Studies- there is a read aloud for that! Reading these books aloud with enthusiasm is a great way to share my love for reading to my students! They love to hear me read and I love the discussions that can come out of it.
