Ryan developed a tolerance to alcohol. The amount he started off drinking vs what he drunk during the psych evaluation had increased. He went from just needed enough to be his regular to needing the whole bottle to feel his normal.

Persistent desire for substance

Ryan's need to avoid getting sick strengthens his desire for alcohol. Every time Ryan would say he had no alcohol in his system his symptoms of withdrawal would start and he'd get agitated until he had a drink. Ryan’s need to drink even started to bother him.

Continued use despite physical or psychological impairments

Ryan was only 28 years old. In the video he presents much older than that. You could tell by looking at him the alcohol was aging him. When he rode with his brother he was clearly agitated and attempted to manipulate him into buying him a drink.

Withdrawal

At the start of the video Ryan was going through withdrawal. This is why he was so panicked, antsy, and speech was forced on the car ride to the liquor store. He hadn't had a drink in 8 hours, he was afraid he might have a seizure due to this. Withdrawal symptoms are a key detail letting you know someone has now built a dependency on a drug. Ryan is dependent on alcohol in order to not get sick.

Ryan's Family

Ryan had a lot of people in his life that were enablers. His grandfather being the biggest one. Followed by his friends in my opinion. Some of his family members were torn apart arguing over his use vs their help in providing it.

There seemed to be a lot of guilt surrounding his use, it seems drinking became his way of coping with grief of his fathers death.

Schizophrenia is genetic and Ryan's dad was schizophrenic. This seemed to be a scary point for the family wondering if Ryan suffered from the same.

Ryan was the main character in this video. He was struggling with alcohol dependency. As a result of his alcohol dependency Ryan drunk on a daily basis. Just going a mere 8 hours without a drink and Ryan was already shaky, this was a tell tell sign of dependency. Ryan tolerance grew overtime and the need of more alcohol persisted. The death of Ryan’s father triggered his alcohol addiction ironically because that is what his Father died of. When Ryan finally got to the point of wanted treatment and not just his family and friends wanting it for him he did go to treatment. Unfortunately Ryan never made it to the end of his treatment, his passed away not long after being admitted.
