Process:

step1: Trace the photo onto the watercolor paper using a graphite pencil and a projector

step2: stretch the watercolor paper using brown paper

step3: begin filling in the portrait with watercolor

step4: Add in the texture, lines, and value with the watercolor pencils

step5: sign at bottom

Experimentation : I experimented layering different colored color pencil in order to appropriately color match with the reference photo.

Materials: graphite pencils, ruler, chromebook/print out of reference photo, eraser, dry paint brush

Process:

Step 1: I took a photo with strong perspective and foreshortening, made the photo black and white, increasing the contrast before printing.

step 2: I measured the printed photo and multiplied it by 2.5 to size the paper. I then gridded the printed photo and paper and began to block in and sketch the drawing

step 3: I started to add more and more value to show the light coming from the right side and the dark shadows to the left.

Step 4: I cleaned up some of the lines, and added a background.

Self assessed skill level: I think I would rate my skills good, approaching advanced.

I believe my best area of work was on the skate and the value tied to it. I could have done a better background and added more value to my shirt.

Materials: Skateboard deck, gesso, wide dry brush, graphite pencil, acrylic paint, acrylic paint markers, variety of sized paint brushes, paper towels, bucket of water, pallet paper, painting knives, spray paint

Process: when receiving deck, I double coated the top and sides with gesso. When dried, I sketched out my design onto the board, mixing the background color blue, I painted around the areas I wanted to keep white. I began filling in the flowers with color, painting the jellyfish a pastel pink and the skull near the bottom and light grey. I finished off the painting, adding vines as the legs of the jellyfish and outlining the flowers and smaller skulls and the bottom with black paint markers to make them stand out.

AP Terminology:

Elements:

-Form and Color. I'm implementing color through the flowers and form through the similar shapes and sizes of the flowers as well as on the bottom, with the multiples of skulls covering the floor.

Principles:

-Repetition, Scale/Size. Repetition with the flowers and skulls (the artist I chose was very repetitious with his art style) and scale/size for the flowers and skulls vary.

Composition:

-Juxtaposition by adding the flowering jellyfish to contrast with the skulls but still trying to connect the two by adding the growing flowers coming out of the larger skull.

Materials: pief tools(carving tools), exacto knife, battleship grey linoleum, brayer, rice paper, stain paper, metal tray for ink, printmaking papers(rice), inks(blue, purple, pink, orange), baren to press paper down

Process: After taking a picture of the arcade game in the perspective I wanted it in, I drew it in my sketchbook, tracing it onto tracing paper with stain paper underneath on top of the linocut. I then outlined the picture on the linocut with sharpie. I started carving out the spaces I definitely wanted to keep white on my print. I then tested it with black for my first print. When I was happy with how it came out, I reprinted it in blue and purple for my pop art and practice prints. I started carving out the spaces I wanted to keep blue/purple. and rolled on orange and pink onto my linocut for my second print on top of the blue and purple.

AP Terminology:

Elements: I used color and line to distinguish contrast within my prints. The color is used to contrast the highlights, background, and shadows while the sharp lines show the dichotomy between the colors.

Principles:

I implemented size/scale and contrast into my printmaking. I used contrast with my choice of colors while creating my first and second prints different, contrasty colors. I implemented scale/size by carving the arcade game onto the linocut in similar the real life size of my reference.

Composition: I used juxtaposition with the arcade game and lightning in the background. They aren't related to each other, but instead contrast with each other creating the a juxtaposition composition.

Materials: black canvas, printed & non-printed reference photo, white chalk, ruler, palette paper, palette knives, red-white-black-green-yellow-blue paint, various sized brushes, water/water container, paper towels

What project did I redo? Instead of painting on a skateboard I chose black canvas. I made the shading and lighting better because the artist I chose did not use either and I'd rather implement color, shade, and lighting because I enjoy painting that way better.

I would definitely continue with painting if I could because I enjoyed it the most this year. I love to color match and mix colors, as well as layer them.

Elements(2): color/value-I implemented color and value into my painting. Both working together, the difference in colors and shades creating value within the car. The head light creates light but also shadow.

Principals(2): contrast/emphasis-The contrast of light and dark create emphasis on the bright red beaming through into the car.

Composition(1): hierarchy- The lights (bright reds) of the painting really capture my eye the most and lead me looking through the car and outside the window. The reds definitely define the painting and empahsizes the personality it's supposed to have.
