Metals are used for many things such as building outlines and even uses for inside homes such as a stove top.

Some characteristics of metals are metals are usually solid at room temperature. They have a high luster which means that they're shiny. Metals are mostly ductile, so they can be drawn into wires and they're also malleable so they can be flattened into sheets without breaking. Most importantly, they are great conductors of thermal energy and they are good for letting electricity travel for things like pans and pots.

Nonmetals are everything metals are not. It's like the opposite of metals.

Some characteristics of nonmetals are that they are not malleable and ductile. They are also very brittle and dull. Instead of being great conductors like how metals are, nonmetals are insulators so they don't allow the thermal energy and electric current to go through.

An element from metals is nickel. Nickel is considered a metal because it has characteristics of a metal such as it ca resist high temperatures, good conductors for toasters and ovens, lustrous, and it is malleable.

Nickel is useful for people because they are used for cooking such as toasters and ovens. It is also used as a coin that is five cents and people can use it to buy things.
