The United Arab Emirates (UAE) abides by a federal elective monarchy consisting of seven emirates. 
The seven emirates are: 
1. Abu Dhabi (Capital) 
2. Ajman
3. Dubai
4. Fujairah
5. Ras Al Khaimah
6. Sharjah 
7. Umm Al Quwain
Each respective Emirate is governed by a Sheikh 
(a hereditary role). The Sheikhs are members of the Federal Supreme Council (governing body). 
One out of the seven Sheikhs is selected to serve in the capacity of President of the United Arab Emirates. 
Offices such as that of the Vice President, Prime Minister, and cabinet are also designated to Sheikhs.

The Mosque began construction in 1996 and was completed in 2007. The mosque was constructed by founding father and former president of the United Arab Emirates, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The Sheikh, upon his death, was buried on the  grounds of the mosque. 
The mosque was constructed with the intention of embracing the diverse Islamic world while serving as a gateway between historical values and modern principles. 
The Mosque was constructed at a cost of $545 million dollars.
The grand mosque can hold over 40,000 worshippers at once.
