Base on the source that I read in internet, an alarm device gives an audible, visual or other form of alarm signal about a problem or condition happen at the time. Alarm and shutdown devices mostly used in buildings such as Residential, Commercial and Industrial. For example : In oil and gas plant using fire detector which are have 3 type such as Smoke, Heat and Flame detector and function to give alarm alert to the operator that can save buildings, human life from any fire and provide an emergency shutdown devices to protect the plant as well.

In my view what i read from google both devices/tools are designed to prevent personal, enviromental and production equipment from fatal damage due to uncontrolled circumstances resulting from the malfunction of the control device or in and emergency.
In oil and gas industry there are many types of alarm such as fire alarm device,, so this device devided into 3 consists of smoke,heat and flame. Types of alarm device generaly consist of two types
1.Gas detector device (combustible, Toxic gas & oxigen)

Based on my knowledge the alarm shutdown is the devices are designed to prevent hazardous situations from occurring and to initiate a shutdown of equipment, in process plant. The generally function to facility/give signal to the operator easy to control, when the equipment it happens damage than the system automatically off.
The type of alarm commonly use an industry oil and gas such as gas detector and fire detector.
