Emilia obsesses over Eva, taking the role of a protective mother figure, as she is lonely and estranged from her own son, she has no one to protect and take on the role of a mother, therefore she uses the Kentucki as an outlet to do so. The obsession with Eva developed from her initial loneliness, and was only enhanced when she saw Eva’s relationship with Klaus, and the relationship with her son growing more estranged.
Pg 130,  when her son got his own kentuki, Emilia felt betrayed as his kentuki took on that motherly role that she was supposed to provide for him, and therefore she felt even more lonely and replaced. I see this as the catalyst and beginning for her obsessive behaviour. She also uses the Kentuki and eva as a escape, as she believes she can solve that problem with Klaus, over her real relationships

This moment represents how she uses the Kentuki as and outlet to ignore her own problems and regain a sense of control and power over a situation, even though she is just ignoring and dissmissing what is actually happening. Her emotions and insecurities and sense of being betrayed overcomes her and so chooses to be ignorant of her situation ,instead of trying to find solutions to fix it. Her son reveals that he is a kentuki keeper, and even though Emilia is a dweller, she dissaproves of this. Not only is she being hypocritical, but also shows how she can have jealous and possesive tendancies, and her relationship with her son is tense as she feels she cannot provide the care that he needs from her as a maternal figure. Throughout the whole text, emilia uses the kentuki to giver herself an outlet to be protective and motherly towards someone. In turn, she wants someone to see her as a motherly figure- and she assumes that emilia sees her that way.
