My curator discussion is about vases from Islamic what inspires the cultures to making them. Vases are used as a type of decoration in someone’s house to make their houses stand out and to be a type of container for various items. Vases were a very fashionable item to have inside one’s home and made to express themselves through their artwork or to use to find a format of exploration. The first vase to be talked about is the Terracotta Panathenaic prize amphora. The piece itself was made in 500 BCE made by a Kleophrades Painter. This vase was made with a design with pankration, a competition which was a combination of wrestling and boxing. The next vase was made in 2300-2200 BCE in the early Cycladic period called the Terracotta kernos. This piece was made for holding flowers and for small offerings of poppyseeds, wheat, or barley. The last piece to be discussed is the Apothecary jar with running Hares and a Dog. This jar was used for storing dry herbs, spices, fruits, and even drugs and medication. The jar is also covered in Arabic scriptures and animals chasing after one another, which is symbolizes as cleverness and their speed.
