NC Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities

This is important to my career in special education because it is the legal documentation of all the policies and procedures regarding children with disabilities. This document contains all the information I need to know when it comes to legal policies in NC. If I were to move, I would have to alter my toolkit and use one from the new state I am in, but for NC this is the backbone to Special Education from a legal aspect.

This is important to my career in special education because this is the document that is for all my students parents. Parents have rights and it is my job to know their rights and help advocate for them, but also to tell them their rights. Caring about my students means also caring about their future and there comes a time when I will no longer be a teacher in their life, so preparing others around them to advocate for them when I am not there is a priority in my book.

A Parents Guide to Special Education in NC

This is important to my career in special education because this is a guide for parents. This is different from the parents rights handout because this goes into more detail about how to manage and work with special education as a whole. Parents rights handout discusses just the rights of the parents, whereas this is more than just their rights, this is also all the details they need to know about IEP's and more.

This article is important because it focuses on teaching culture and language differences in special education. This would be used in my daily practice to make sure that I am including everyone as well as tackling the hard parts of teaching when it comes to students not understanding diversity and it being my job that they see it in a positive manner. It is my job to include everyone and make sure that the differences in my classroom are seen as the good thing that they are.

It will give me a leg up in the game as well to already be familiar and have been using MTSS guidelines when it comes to a school that is still working towards it.
