She was very focused on her education by borrowing books from theater to pursue her studies, and later she enrolled in Howard University, known as one of the most black colleges in the country. She had interest in her school's newspaper, later published in 1924 and joined the Howard literary club, making a rise in the world of writing, like being able to write for the newspaper “the stylus, writing many articles given the opportunities.
