It's about a girl named Carley and her mom had married some guy who beat her. One day Carley made Dennis mad and he run after her trying to hit her. Then Carley's mom grabbed her ankle and Dennis beat her. Carley couldn't remember anything that had happened after that. But now her mom was in the hospital, Dennis was in court, and Carley had been put in foster care. She was a tough girl because she was used to living in Las Vegas and her mother had made her tough. So she blocked out the Murphys and tried not to get close to them in any way. But it was hard to do and the littlest kid in the Murphys family loved her and she was happy to play games with him, and his older brother. But then she started to love the Murphys and she couldn't do that because she knew when her mom got out of the hospital she would be taken back to Las Vegas.
