Today I received the task, from there I gathered my group and we began brainstorming different activities. We came up with several different ideas such as bench ball, handball, bulldog etc.however we decided that because we are working with a low level group we needed to host an activity that required minimal instructions and rules as well as low level of physical activity. Therefore we decided on an obstacle course. These are very self explanatory and requires very little instruction. They can also be modified and personalised to those who are participating and depending on what equipment you have

In today's lesson we decided to undertake a full rehearsal of our activity .The first action my group undertook in preparation was to create a full kit list; this is a list of all the equipment we needed in order to carry out the activity. We then met jack (the college's P.E coordinator) to gather said equipment and took it over to the sports hall. Whilst we were at the hall we had a chance to test out other people's activities also. Whilst setting up and trying out our activity we decided to add in rules to suit the abilities of different people such as each person get three tries to complete each section and after that they can move on.

Since receiving the task my group and I began to brainstorm ideas for different activities based on the group's level of physical activity. Because our group is low level who have physical and mentally incapable so therefore there are special conciderations that need to be taken. For example the activity we chose needed to be of a low physical and mental ability level. From this we decided that an obstacle course was a good idea as it can be altered to the general level of activity. The venue we have chosen is the Leisure Zone Sports Hall, our reason for this is because it is local and easily accessible for both us and the group. Because the hall is so accessible we have arranged that the group make their own way to the hall.

The activity we have chosen is an obstacle course. This activity is pretty straight forward and will be demonstrated rather than explained. There are few rules that are put into place when carrying out this activity such as you get three tries to attempt each section and if they exceed this they're to move on. Each group has to complete the course in the fastest time possible and the winner will be the team with the quickest completion time overall. The times will be written down on a scoring sheet and then calculated to determine a winning team. If there is enough time, the activity will be carried out again.

The health and safety of the group we are working with is very important. Because they are considered to be low level it is necessary that we take extra precautions to suit their capability. Each item used was risk assessed, along with the venue itself and the activity. As a group we ensured that each item used could be used safely, we also offered alternative ways to tackle the obstacle course for those who felt a certain part of the obstacle course was too challenging for them. For example, we asked that they sidestep infront of the bench rather than ontop of it.
We decided to keep the obstacle course simple but fun. By keeping it simple we lower the risk of injury and therefore it will also make it easier for the group to complete also.
When creating the leaflet/poster for the activity we added a side note onto it asking that each person remembers sports clothing and shoes so that they are in the correct uniform for the activity.

When using the bench, it is easy to lose your balance when you're excited and trying to rush, because of this we offered each participant support and guidance if they wished for it. We also asked all participants to be as careful as possible and take as much time as they need to complete each section.

As a group we took it in turns to explain the activity and the devised the obstacle course into three sections where we would place ourselves to assist the activity. Emma was placed at the start of the obstacle course where she would assist with the management and flow of team members onto the obstacle course and to assist with the first third of the course itself. Amy was placed in the middle of the course where she encouraged each team member and assisted them through the second third of the course. I was placed at the end of the course where I helped with encouragement, assistance with the last third of the course and the flow of team members back to the start.

We had devised this plan prior to the event so that we were prepared and knew exactly what our roles were. I believe that our team management was great and that each person had an equal amount of participation and management throughout the duration of the activity.

It is very important that we maintained a good level of clear communication with each other and with the group so that rules and safety instructions were clear and understood by everyone. We explained to the group the rules and instructions and offered to repeat them for anyone that missed any information or would simply like to hear it again. We has good listening communication between both groups, as well as both verbal and non verbal communication.

The positions that we strategically placed ourselves in ensured that we all had complete ability to supervise all aspects of the activity at all times and helped to ensure that encouragement for inclusion could be made. These positions also helped to ensure that each participant was able to complete the activity safely. This helped with our awareness of health and safety and folowinhealth and safety procedures.

After the activity we cleared away all of the equipment used and returned it to jack.

Documentation such as a register and accident report forms are important when planning an activity. Registers are legal documents to show who should be present when called upon. If in the event of a fire someone is missing, a register will help to distinguish who the missing person is. An accident report form is important because it gives the exact details of the incident, what action was taken and the details of those injured. Accident report forms and registers are important for allegations also but mainly for health and safety.

I think that I worked very well as a part of this team and contributed towards decisions and compromising fairly. I do not believe that I overpowered anybody's opinions or ideas and I think we worked together at all times to come to a decision.

When it came down to the set up of the obstacle course I took leadership as the others were gathering the rest of the equipment. I believe that my part of the teamwork was equal to everybody else's and that we all worked well together.

I have learned from this experience that you have to be patient with planning , it takes a lot of preparation and dedication. If myself and my group had not have planned well in advance, it could have turned out to be a disaster as originally we had a much more difficult obstacle course and then we had to simplify I based on the physical need and capability of the group.

If I were yo do it again I would have used equipment that looked more exciting rather than a few hoops, cones and a bench. This is because quite a few people were not interested in even taking part. Although everyone that took part enjoyed themselves, it would have been nice for more people to have joined in too.

As a group I think that we worked really well. Despite the fact that the equipment we had access to was limited, the fact our space was restricted and that not everyone was willing to participate, we still managed to enjoy ourselves, it ran smoothly and those who did participate enjoyed themselves.

Luckily the weather was good and the location was local so therefore everyone was able to attend the activity. We had 0 accidents or injures and a fair amount of participants. If however, there were accidents, injuries and not enough participants this could have affected our group success.

This activity could have easily been unsuitable for the group, however, we simplified it and created a obstacle course that was easy yet fun for the participants. Each participant behaved well from listening to rules and instructions to completing the course and behaving well when the winning team was announced.

At first we were concerned about the number of people not wanting to participate, we ended up with two teams of 6. This could have been a problem for us as we could have been left with extra time and no participants to complete the course. Although we had a back up plan for if this was to happen. It still could have caused a problem. Luckily for us though, two teams of 6 was the perfect amount and we managed to finish our activity right on time.

Each team member participated well and behaved really well. They were encouraging and cheering each other on. Which was great for us to see. A few participants even said they would like to do it again.

Jack (the sports coordinator) was very impressed with our group and idea as we managed to get one of the girls (Amy) to participate. This was great because he said that he struggles to get her to participate usually, that it was great to see her do so and enjoy it.
