In 1903, the landlord`s game was created. This game was fairly similiar to monopoly because it involved a square track around the center of the game board. In the landlord`s game you could buy your own properties along the square track. The purpose of the game was to understand the method of buying property. The landlord`s game had not been adopted by children as they did not quite understand how the game worked. This board game was sold to another company known as The Parker Brothers. This company later upgraded the Landlord`s game to what we call today, Monopoly.

Over the years, we can clearly see the progression in board games. Board games are no longer self-made from stone or wood. As technology improved, board games evolved accordingly. Now, board games are made from plastic and improved materials. For example, the game of life was a board game created in 1960. The game represents a person going through their life from when they are born, to elementary school, through college, a job, marriage, and buying a house. This board game is about a person going through their life in a fun way. Modern board games are related more to real life situations, whereas games in the past were more about self-satisfaction, for example, hop-scotch was a game made for having fun. It never had a story line or any restrictions. Long ago, games were made from original resources without much hesitation. Today, games have to be tested and thought about before they can be published and sent out into the real world.
