This would allow students to better understand more in depth the affect history has. An example of this would be the bubonic plague and I would ask students why they thought it caused the end of feudalism in Europe. By allowing students to discover answers for themselves rather than it be taught at them it is more likely to make a lasting impact.

Teaching history there are some points that the only way to get the information to the students is to directly teach it. This will help for some of the information that will be required for students to know in areas like important dates where it needs to be given to the student versus a student coming to the conclusion themselves. A good example of this is not just dates but time periods of wars because with the 100 year war it actually lasted 116 years without that being directly taught a student may conclude it was only 100 years.

Developing High Expectations of Students

in my opinion my classroom will have high level of expectations for all high schoolers. While teaching history to my students my goal is that all students will achieve all the expectations placed on them in my classroom. This is important because these expectations will help them grow as learners in all their classes. An example of this is requiring all students to treat each other with kindness in my classroom. I know not all students may get along, but while in my class bullying of any form will not be tolerated, and this will help ensure a good learning environment for all students and hopefully they will keep the same attitude in all their classes.

With teaching High school age students this will allow them to form their own opinions on historical issues which will open the way for discussions in our class. An example of this would be when teaching the civil war by having students do a pro con grid of the war they can decide for themselves if they think it could have been avoided or if it was going to happen no matter what.

By having the students create their own test questions it will have them think about what is the most important in what we have learned. This will be good for high school age students as they will be able to develop their critical thinking skills more.

I think for high school age students this will be great because it will allow for them to observe their peers formulating ideas on the subject. On the other hand it is also a way for students to think more critically about their ideas because they have an audience they are more likely to think through what they say instead of blurting out the first thing on their mind. This can help with better more useful discussions.

This will be helpful as their are some events that a hard to remember in history even for high school age students. This will help them to remember important events easier. An example of this is MAIN ( Militarism ,Alliances ,Imperialisms , Nationalism). These were the main causes of world war 1 and by remembering MAIN it is easier for students to remember these main causes.

I think field trips are a good way for students of any age to see history first hand. In living in San Angelo, Texas we are lucky to be close to a still standing fort that students could see where people lived and how they lived during that time period after the civil war. I think it makes easier for students sometimes to understand history when they are able to see parts of it for themselves.

I think for high school age students this will be great for group projects because it will allow students to formulate their own ideas and discuss them in a small group to see if their fellow students feel the same or have different ideas. This also gives them an insight into how a lot of the historical political events were decided by small groups and then presented to the country.

I think the most important thing will an assessment is to see what students remember rather than handing them a grade. So I think Entry exit tickets will best allow for that at the beginning of class have students write a few sentences about what that remember from the previous day to gauge where they are at in the lesson and at the end of the day spend 5 minutes writing a few sentences about what they found most important in todays lesson. This gives them an opportunity to have a no pressure way of gauging how they are doing.
