Materials Needed:

• Ice cube trays

• Water

• Food coloring (various colors)

• Popsicle sticks or small craft sticks

• Thick white paper or watercolor paper

• Tray or plate to catch drips

Instructions:

1. Fill the ice cube tray compartments about 3/4 full with water.

2. Add a few drops of different food coloring to each compartment.

3. Insert a popsicle stick into each compartment.

4. Freeze until solid (several hours or overnight).

5. Give each student one or more colored ice cubes with sticks.

6. Let students paint on thick white or watercolor paper using the melting colored ice cubes.

7. As the ice melts, it will leave colorful patterns and textures reminiscent of winter ice and snow.

Materials Needed:

• Foam sheets, felt, or colored construction paper (red, green, blue, white, etc.)

• Scissors

• Glue or glue sticks

• Small pom-poms or cotton balls

• Markers or glitter glue for decoration

• Ruler (optional)

Instructions:

1. Cut a rectangle about 2 inches wide and 6 inches long from the foam/felt/paper for the bookmark base.

2. Cut a triangle or trapezoid shape to form the hat, approximately the width of the rectangle and about 2-3 inches tall.

3. Attach the hat shape to the top of the rectangle with glue.

4. Glue a pom-pom or cotton ball to the tip of the hat.

5. Add a white strip of paper or felt at the bottom of the hat to mimic a hat cuff.

6. Decorate the hat with markers, glitter glue, or small shapes (snowflakes, stars).

7. Let dry before use.

• Cotton balls or cotton batting (for snow)

• Aluminum foil (for icy elements)

• White paint or white paper scraps

• Glue

• Scissors

• Optional: markers or crayons for details

Instructions:

1. Give each student a sheet of blue construction paper as the background.

2. Tear or cut cotton balls into small pieces and glue them onto the paper to create snow on the ground and snow-covered trees.

3. Cut small irregular shapes from aluminum foil to represent ice patches or frozen ponds, and glue onto the scene.

4. Use white paint splatters or small torn white paper pieces to add falling snow.

5. Students can draw or cut out shapes of winter trees, animals, or snowmen to add to their collage.

6. Add details with markers or crayons if desired.
