Last year my brother read the book and he explained to me that if you get polio, it can result in getting paralyzed from the legs, waist and below, feet to neck and even from your whole body. You will still be living, your heart will be beating but you can't move, talk, and obviously can't walk. 🚫🚶

Polio can be spread by contact. For example, if you go to a public swimming pool, someone with the disease might've gone in the pool, and you might go in the same pool, you could develop polio.

Fortunately, polio is now a very rare disease. March 26, 1953 Dr. Jonas Salk. He found out the vaccine for polio and it saved many people.

http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/salk-announces-polio-vaccine

Polio Facts:

1. The first clinical description of polio was given in 1789 by the British physician Michael Underwood.

2.Before we had the polio vaccine, 13,000 to 20,000 people were paralyzed by polio, and 1,000 people died of the disease in the U.S.A each year. Scary enough, most of those infected were elementary school children so it was often called infantile paralysis.

3.Polio is caused by the poliovirus, which is a highly contagious virus focused on humans. It usually enters the feces of a person who is infected. When there is poor sanitation, the virus easily spreads from the feces into the water supply, or even by touch, into food. Polio spreads from person to person and can invade an infected brain and spine causing paralysis.

4.In 1952 the first effective polio vaccine was made by Jonas Salk and his team at the University of Pittsburg. But it was released in 1954 nationwide, the scale of something had never been seen before.

Sites used:
https://www.cdc.gov › polio-indepth-color
https://www.cdc.gov › polio › about
Medical News Today › articles
https://www.cdc.gov › polio › about

Questions:
Has polio been completely terminated, or is it still around, waiting for someone unvaccinated to come along?
Can polio be cured without a vaccine or will it just stay with you or let you die?
Is it possible to have polio and another disease like cancer at the same time?

If you come in contact with a person with Poliomyelitis you will get it as well. Sometimes the disease can be fatal. Poliomyelitis destroys the nerve cells in the spinal cord, therefore immobilizing all physical activity within the body. Poliomyelitis is incurable but treatment may help. It is spread by the poliovirus. Most people who get poliovirus don't get sick and show no symptoms. However, the unlucky ones do get polio, and the really unlucky ones die of polio.

Source: Google
