We are studying the uprise of gum purchasing following the recent covid 19 pandemic. At first, we struggled to determine the final topic that we wanted to study for this project, however, the realization struck us when multiple people asked us for a piece of freshly bought peppermint gum. We began to realize that gum had clearly gained attraction ever since the mask mandate in schools and other places had been lifted. Our curiosity spread, and we wanted to find statistical reasoning behind this strange topic. We hope to explore the reasoning as to why there has been such a dramatic uprise in gum purchasing from the opinions of both experts and everyday people within our class. We are also looking for statistical differences between pre and post-pandemic gum purchasing.  We will be using the observational study method to observe what percentage of students in our class chew gum, and if they chewing gum pre-pandemic. Our topic choice allows us to get useful information from both experts who may study the cause for the uprise in products and also other students who may not know statistical information but would still help us gain insight into why the demand for gum has suddenly increased.

As we are unaware how much data is being used and what all of the statistics are in reference to. 

This article talked more about the types of gums, naming more specific types of gum brands and also looking at the most popular ones and what kind of gums are selling more than others. Maybe the article could have provided predictions for gum brands and reasoning to why they are predicted to increase in popularity. 

There were not a lot of sources and most information is provided from specific people and owners of businesses. This may seem helpful to gain insight from sellers who work in that industry, however we are still only being limited to one area with not a lot of knowledge on the data recorded in that area and why it is only limited to that area

This source provided us with a bar graph to show US gum sales spread over monthly intervals
-The graph shows us that the US gum sales turned positive in late spring as more states reopened
-Due to the beginning of recovery after the pandemic, itis stated that states reopened and loosened their covid-19 restrictions, allowing more stores to open again and allowing increase for much more everyday purchases, one being gum.

-The article repeatedly mentions the changes and variations of costs for an average pack of gum, and we are more interested in the amounts of people purchasing the gum itself.
