Looking back on the preliminary tasks, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

My blogging from septemeber to now has improved immensely. I now have the ability to post into detail and have a wide knowledge on the appropriate language to use and how to use it creatively. At the start of As Media my blog was not into as much detail as it should be, i began over time to learn how to input pictures, add videos etc to my blog which started to make it look more presentable and attractive to read. The blog actually helped me when it came to planning and producing my real product as i was able to see visual where i was and what i needed to do as it kept me updated myself. During making my final product my blog was extremely helpful as i was able to refer back to it when filming and all my resources whee in one place so it helped me carry out an efficient effective product.

For my final production 'RUN' i was able to think into more depth as not only did i have practice from the preliminary task but also the draft of the final production that we filmed to help me be more ready for my real thing. For the casting i looked a multiple different people and analysed what would be best suitable for my opening film. I had to think about the age, gender etc to make it match the forms and conventions of a horror film but to also try and challenge them. For the props i went out and searched the internet and also the signs i made myself and these all helped towards making a realistic scary horror film.

I went into a lot of detail on my research and planning to create the most effective final product. I looked into detail on the best locations for my horror film and i knew through my textual analysis' that i wanted to set it in a forest and a house. I also knew this would be convenient for my cast because not only do my cast members live local to the places being filmed but it was also one of the members houses that was being used to film

My main production was more ambitious than my preliminary task because it only involved actors who were not really suited for the roles because they were only teenagers playing a 'office job' role. For run I chose a teenager girl as the matched the forms and conventions of a horror film because normally it would be a young girl getting killed at the beginning. Furthermore my preliminary task was very basic as you can see from my blog video it was only filmed in one part of the school building which was the media part and mostly was filmed in a classroom which was not realistic as it was a job interview and the miss-en-scene was not correct.

For my production i did about 5-6 months of research a planning. This involved looking a different existing media texts which helped me create a visual image of how to make an effective opening. Also i researched into film industries and my target audience, also looked at my cast members and the locations. I planned into depth the location so where, why and how i would film in the forest and house. I also blogged about the equipment i needed and made a story board of the different shots i needed to use. This allowed me on the filming days to be prepared and to carry out a smooth production. Not only did it help on the production days but also allowed me to have detailed knowledge on the horror genre and the different sub-genres within it. By doing his extensive research helped to show h i have a clear understanding of the industry and actually made it enjoyable to carry out because i was well prepared and not panicking which i was on the draft of filming.

The way i edit is completely different now compared to my draft of filming but especially the preliminary task as at the time i had never used the software premier pro or photoshop for the magazine article. When editing my final product i had a lot more confidence and skill to carry out specific tools and techniques in order to produce a professional looking opening. The editing in my preliminary task was more about understanding the software and getting a feel on the layout of and putting together different clips it whereas my final product was edited into finer detailed and the sound tracks used were appropriate to the shot and i knew why i used it e.g the soundtrack suspicious behaviour i used to create suspense. I did not actually have a target audience or anything like that for my preliminary task which again reinforces how it was more of just a practice on how to use the different equipment and to piece together and sequence. For my final product i combined different camera angles of the same action e.g the closing of the glass door in the house and used different sound effects and soundtracks to keep my audience intrigued and to also scare them.
