Students can't learn new things if they are not presented with some risks. For example, I would love to have a play area for my students that would look risky to the outside eye. I would make sure the area was not dangerous in any way, but adding a balance beam with padding underneath would allow students to take risks and explore new movements within their body. Failure is an important part of learning. If a student does't fail at something, how can they learn anything? Another example would be creating a big paint area. Many times students are told not to mix paints and told what to paint. One way I can push myself to be a better communicator is to write down ways I can give students the opportunity to respond during lesson. They way teachers should communicate should always be intentional and purposeful. In addition, I can provide great way to communicate with the families of my students. It is such an important quality to have especially if I want to have a classroom that feels like a family. I could have cups with each students name on it. Once a week the students get to pick another students name and it must not be shared. Whatever name you pick, you must write nice things on a piece of paper and place it in their cup so at the end of the week, each student has nice things to read about them and each student gets to write caring things about their fellow classmate.
