Welcome to Year 6!

We are really looking forward to the year ahead and getting to know our new year 6 pupils. There are many exciting opportunities coming up for the children including a trip to London and our residential trip to Shropshire in March. More information about these will follow soon.

What to bring to school.

Children should bring the following items to school every day:

- a water-bottle (containing water not squash or juice),

- a fruit or vegetable snack for "Fruity Five",

- a pencil case containing blue, black and red handwriting pens, a pencil, a ruler, a glue-stick and a pair of scissors,

- an eraser, a pencil sharpener, felt tips or coloured pencils (all optional),

- outdoor clothing to suit the weather e.g. a raincoat, a sunhat, gloves etc.

We aim to encourage all children to follow our 3 R's: Being Respectful, Being Responsible and Being Ready to learn. In Year 6, we continue to explore and develop these values in order to help the children achieve their potential, feel safe and happy in their learning and be prepared for their journey ahead to secondary school.

Protective Behaviours

We have embraced Protective Behaviours at Telford as our framework for personal safety. We teach the Taking Care Project in the Autumn term and embed Protective Behaviours into our daily practice. We talk to children about having a safe network of adults, learning to recognise their Early Warning Signs and identifying their safe space.

Mobile phones and smart watches

This is just a reminder that children are not permitted to bring either mobile phones or smart watches into school. If there is a specific reason why a child needs to bring a phone or smart watch to school, please let their class teacher know in writing and they will be asked to take it straight to the school office at the start of the day and collect it at the end of the day. Phones must be switched off on arrival in school and not turned back on until children have left the school site. This is part of our ongoing commitment to keep children safe at school.

Home Supported Learning

The first set of maths and English home supported learning will be sent home on Monday 14th Sept and will be due back the following Monday (21st). Those children who complete their home learning on time, will be rewarded with an extra breaktime on Monday afternoons.

Spelling Tests

The first spelling list will be sent home on Fri 11th Sept and children will have a spelling test every Friday from then on. Lists will be posted here and not sent home in paper form unless specifically requested. Thank you for your help in supporting the children with their spellings.

European Day of Languages 2026

We had a great time in Year 6 celebrating different European countries. Redwood found out all about life in the Netherlands, Spruce learnt about Denmark and Willow immersed themselves in all things Austrian. We all then spent some time decorating t-shirts to celebrate what European Languages Day means to us. Here are some photos of our day.
