3 Things:2 strengths I bring to the inclusive classroom:1. I feel that my open-mindedness is a strength I bring to the classroom. I am always open to hearing feedback and ideas from colleagues. I love to be able to collaborate with others because it can spark my imagination and creativity. I am always willing to work with others because I want to hear what they have to say. I feel that we all learn from one another and enjoy having a dialogue.2. My second strength would be my caring personality. I want my students to know I view them as more than just students at a desk. I want students to understand that I care about their lives and want to be a support system for them. I always ask my students about what is going on in their lives and try to find the time to talk to them individually. I want my students to be comfortable coming to my classroom everyday knowing that they are cared for and loved.1 area of learning I would like to develop and grow in with this course:1. I would like to improve my differentiation skills. I have students from a wide range of levels and abilities. I find it difficult to differentiate every day as a daily habit. I am especially interested in learning how to differentiate science content because it can be so dense and hands-on. I want to make learning accessible for all of my students, but I need more information and resources to be able to do so.

Importance of Reflection

Reflection is important because it is the only way that you can improve. If you never know if things are going well or not, you do not know how to properly proceed. It is important to reflect so that you can understand your strengths and weaknesses. When you know your strengths, you can plan accordingly. When you know your weaknesses, you can seek out ways to strengthen yourself. Without reflection, things will be going in a slow, straight line with no chance or progress or improvement. Without reflection, things will never change. Change is necessary to make sure that learning is meaningful and fun for students.

Dear future students,

I would let my students know that they will be doing lots of hands-on work. I want to make them feel comfortable working with the equipment and being in a lab setting. I would tell my future students that they should never be afraid to ask questions. I also want them to relate what they are learning to the real-world so that it has more meaning for them. Safety would be my number one priority for students in a lab setting. I want my students to know that we will be exploring various concepts through research and reading as well as hands-on work. I want them to know that I will give them the help and support that they need to be successful. I would like my students to take a group approach with their work. I want them to be able to work though misconceptions with their peers. Collaboration is a very important part of science, and I want my students to value that.
Kimberly Ferguson
